Sleepy & Boo play electronic music of all shapes and sizes, rocking rooms big and small across New York City and beyond. Forget sticking to just one genre — as DJs, they are known for their diversity and their knack for picking tracks from across the musical spectrum.

From their home base in New York, Sleepy & Boo have become preeminent players in the cities underground music scene. For five-plus years, they have been the resident DJs and driving force behind Basic NYC at Sullivan Room. At the party, they have played alongside and hosted a who's who of the world’s top DJs. The quality and diversity of the Basic NYC soiree was recognized in 2009 as New York Magazine recognized it as New York’s “Best Dance Party”. 2010 continues this trend as Basic NYC welcome a wide range of special guests in the coming weeks. This eclectic list includes the likes of D:Fuse (Jan. 23), Hector Romero (Jan. 30), Misstress Barbara (Feb. 6), Frankie Knuckles (Feb. 20), and Ben Sims (Feb. 27).

In addition to the Basic NYC events, the duo are consistently DJing throughout New York City and internationally. From the inaugural Electric Zoo Festival, to notable venues like Cielo, Webster Hall, Pacha and Water Taxi Beach, there is rarely a weekend where fans cannot catch Sleepy & Boo behind the decks. With the new S&B Sessions Podcast, and plans for a digital music label underway, Sleepy & Boo continue to look for new ways to share their love of cutting edge dance music with.

Best clubbing trend of the 00s
Do it yourself. Don’t wait for someone else to find you.

Worst clubbing trend of the 00s

Seeing so many record stores, record distributors and record labels go under.

Best track of the 00s
Kings of Tomorrow “Finally”. We love that song.

Best summertime anthem

Trentemøller’s “Le Champagne”

Best NYC clubbing moment of the ‘00s
Starting our own party and watching it grow.

Album of the decade

Loved all of Jeff Mills’ concept albums - “One Man Spaceship”, “Contact Special” and “Sleeper Wakes”

Best Producer
So many made great tracks in the last decade. Our brains are exploding trying to narrow it down.

Best Global Club
Fabric in London, Womb in Tokyo and Space Ibiza.

Best U.S. Club
Our home - Sullivan Room. And of course Santos Party House, Cielo, Pacha and Love. NYC forever!

Best Festival
Electric Zoo. Playing in the Riverside Arena tent was quite memorable. DEMF, SonneMondSterne, and I <3 Techno. It’s a festival galore.

Best Record Label
The survivors: props to OM Records, King Street, Defected, Kompakt, 2020 Vision, SAW Recordings, Ovum and all the others that lived through a challenging decade and released great music.

Most embarrassing club moment

What happens in the club, stays in the club!

Best fan moment

Some of our fans at Terminal 5 holding up their iPhones with “SLEEPY & BOO” scrolling across the screen. That put a big smile on our faces

Best DJ software
Serato – the best of both worlds: using turntables to control a huge, portable library of music. Oh how we love the Technics.

Best studio software
Ableton Live.

Best or Worst piece of gear that changed DJing forever
Purists hate it, futurists love it, but whatever your medium is, it’s pretty clear that “going digital” has permanently changed Djing. There’s too many pros and cons on both side of the argument to single out one piece of gear.

Best “One More Tune” (encore) track
Orbital “Halcyon On+On” (Tom Middleton Remodel) - Tom’s remix perfectly spruced up a timeless classic.

Best clubbing destination

Ibiza.

Best Airport

Ibiza, obviously. Because when you’re there, you know the party is about to start.

Best Airline
ANA for the free business class hookup to close out the decade.

Best Hotel
So many. Aguas Ibiza, the Cerulean Tower in Tokyo, St. Martin’s Lane in London, the Setai in Miami.

Best After-Party
The Old Miami in Detroit.

Highlight of 2009
Being able to bring even more of our musical heroes to Sullivan Room. And playing at so many other great parties in NYC.

Lowlight of 2009

Mondays. Pretty much all of them.

NYE gig (Club, City)
Lounge 57, Tokyo. That was a blast.

Surefire NYE track
The Copyright mix of “La Mezcla”, a fun remix of one of the year’s biggest tracks.

Plans to detox after NYE

Always travel somewhere fun. This year we were in Tokyo.

New Year’s Resolution
Don’t believe the hype.

Clubbing predictions for 2010 and beyond
We’ll be optimistic and predict that New York gets a brand-new big club, with a world-class sound system and the talent to match. *Shakes head, crosses fingers*

Plans for 2010
Keep pushing on, things are gonna get better. It won’t be long, keep on pushing to the top.
