Is it really almost WMC Season? It stopped being offensively freezing outside, the clubs here have begun announcing a glut of big names to appear in the next couple months (pre- & post-WMC), and people have begun shopping for cool sunglasses again. I must say, it’s beginning to look a lot like Conference! Which also means it is time for The Good, The Bad, The Messy to tell everyone how to properly enjoy the week of debauchery in the sun.

I have a theory. DJ-ing killed the traditional live band experience. In Lieu of NYC nightlife, this past week NYC flew safely on over the red states to visit the second best city in the US for electronic music, San Francisco, for the first annual Summer Music Conference. An appendix to the San Francisco Love Fest and a West Coast, seasonal alternative to WMC, the SMC hopes to catch fire and become a similar music-centric destination for all things electronica. This year it certainly made strides in establishing itself with some amazing parties, great venues and of course the unique San Fran vibe that makes their scene almost as dope as NYC.

By all accounts this was one of the more enjoyable WMC's in a long time for many folks. I do not know what set it apart exactly, but everyone seemed to have a lot of fun, there was loads of great music, tons of laughter, and the parties all seemed top notch. As there were so many highlights, a few lowlights, and of course the most talked about DJ of conference with his own series of highlights and lowlights, The Good, The Bad, and The Messy is here to lay out what they all were…

Yes it is time, the end of March, as winter comes to a close, and it is time for Miami's Winter Music Conference. Now I guess it isn't just WMC anymore, it's M3 as well, but for all intents and purposes it is still simply "Conference". Every year people say the same thing about it, its not as good as it used to be, there's too many people, no good parties, blah blah blah... Whatever dude, its March. You're cold. Miami is warm and sunny. Every DJ you ever heard of is down there. No matter how shitty you think it may be, it won't be as shitty as sitting home in some cold weather city all week hoping that maybe it might just break 50 degrees so you won't freeze your ass off when you finally leave your tiny apartment for 10 minutes to go walk the dog.
