  1. How was WMC for you?
Our first Plexi PR party of WMC was a great success and all our artists had fantastic gigs. It was by far the best balance of working & partying yet. Let's just say NYC nightlife trains you well for the WMC marathon.
  2. What was your best party / highlight of conference?
Watching Infusion rock out crowds and meeting tons of UK and press folks who you only know through email and the phone.
  3. What was the worst party / lowlight of conference?
The Global Underground Tiki Boat party was a disaster guestlist-wise. An afternoon wasted and slightly bruised ego but such is the industry. Also, Miami Beach Code Compliance - blech!
  4. Highlight track(s) of conference?
Trendroid "Rumba Magic" - kickin' Tito Puente sample
  5. New talent: DJs ? producers ? live acts that really stood out at conference?
Infusion always stands out for me because each gig they rock with their fans and win over a whole new audience. Also, Krafty Kuts. He's won Best DJ awards in Australia and it was one of those moments where I was at a party and was so impressed I ran up to the DJ Booth to ask who was playing. There must be something about Australia...
  6. Best Set: Who delivered the Top 3 sets of conference?
James Zabiela - Plexi PR Dance Local Think Global, Ultra Boat Party. Infusion @ Nerve - mind-blowing energy and up-for-it crowd. Infusion does it again! Watch the live video here! Steve Lawler @ State - his WMC exclusive set, Steve rocked the party from start to finish and then continued on at after-hours at Cafeteria.
  7. Most memorable (funny or otherwise) experience from conference.
The Englishmen who followed us home...literally! From Nerve to our hotel. He mistook Ruin from GrayArea for Nick Warren (okay, so there's only about a decade age gap there). Then he wanted money for a cab. Only in Miami...
  8. What's coming up next for you in 2004?
Helping revitalize NYC clubbing, Infusion's artist album, Astro&glyde on Bedrock and lots of new artists and music in 2004. Let's push things forward!

  1. How was WMC for you?
It excellent but I played too much and got a bit tired.... I'm such a lightweight!
  2. What was the best party / highlight of conference?
The Ultra Boat party on the Tuesday. Loads of fun :-)
  3. What was the worst party / lowlight of conference?
For me it was Mansion a few days before. I was really jet lagged and I couldn't get into it....
  4. Highlight track(s) of conference?
Ettienne De Crecy's mix of Kraftwerk's 'Aerodynamik'. Acid!!!
  5. New talent: DJs producers live acts that really stood out at conference?
Domingo Cassello, a really young DJ from Miami who's music is diverse and interesting. I also saw Hisham play for a little who was great.
  6. Best Set: Who delivered the Top 3 sets of conference?
Three & Terry Francis back to back at Hallucination / Lance Cashion at the Proton party / Infusion live at Nerve
  7. Most memorable (funny or otherwise) experience from conference.
Seeing one of the guys from Swag asleep in a club covered in Ice Cream & various other deserts... Did I mention he'd pissed himself too? Poor guy.
  8. What¹s coming up next for you in 2004?
I'm currently working on CD to be released in July by Renaissance.

Grayarea / Hope Recordings
Chicago, IL, USA
  1. How was WMC for you?
Exhausting, but fun as hell‹worth every minute to see friends from around the world
  2. What was the best party / highlight of conference?
Zabiela & Burridge @ Nerve was wonderful, though I showed up late...Hope party @ Crobar was ridiculous as usual.
  3. What was the worst party / lowlight of conference?
URB @ Space, though not because of URB.  No comment.
  4. Highlight track(s) of conference?
Only really saw live groups that we played with, and/or didn¹t know what people were playing.  That being said Infusion: ³Do To You What You Want Me To².
  5. New talent: DJs producers live acts that really stood out at conference?
Digital Witchcraft amazing new remixes & productions.  Rumors of them going the live route.  Look the $%&# out.
  6. Best Set: Who delivered the Top 3 sets of conference?
Digital Witchcraft @ Proton, Zabiela/Burridge @ Nerve, Infusion @ Remix Hotel.
  7. Most memorable (funny or otherwise) experience from conference.
Highlight of conference was getting away from the music for a minute, drinking wine on the beach on Monday morning watching the sun come up with my favorite little girl in the whole wide world.  Funniest event was hearing about Nosmo (of Grayarea) losing his shoes one night & watching the rumor mill turn the story into Nosmo losing his shoes at Ultra in the middle of our set.
  8. What¹s coming up next for you in 2004?
Crazy limited edition new original single out March 29th on Hope Recordings‹doing it punk rock style, ltd. to 1000 copies w/ hand-numbered full color photo insert.  Remix single out June/July.  Remixes of Hybrid & Steve Porter out soon.  Trying to stay off tour & write some new music of our own; getting production underway on that album of ours that we¹ve been promising everyone for too long.

Brian McConnell

Rhythmism
NEW YORK!, NY USA
  1. How was WMC for you?
There seemed to be way more patrons than parties this year - which is a good thing in a way.

There also appeared to be more parties and more support for fringe EDM styles like microhouse, electro-funk and avante garde stuff like Schematic records.

Oh, and when did everyone start playing German micro-house?!?!
  2. What was your best party / highlight of conference?
Richie Hawtin's set at Privilege Sunday just ruined my shit - completely.

The PLEXI party was a lot of fun too. Quality beats, a pool and BBQ are an unbeatable combo.

I was really impressed by the Remix Hotel. I've been to a fair number of audio technology trade shows, and they did it a bang-up job of showing and demoing the bleeding edge of technology relevant to DJ's & producers.
  3. What was the worst party / lowlight of conference?
Dealing with the mob at the door of nearly every club every night. The door staff were simply not prepared - or inclined really - to handle the number of people coming at them every night.

Proper lines instead of a swarm at the ropes and separate entrances for VIP & guest lists would have helped dramatically.

The horrendous traffic in south beach and the totally inadequate public transportation system. South Beach was overloaded by WMC, Spring Break and the Food & Wine Festival over the weekend. Terrible planning.

The indigenous Miami clubbing crowd... blech
  4. Highlight track(s) of conference?
    um. tracks?
  5. New talent: DJs ? producers ? live acts that really stood out at conference?
The 112 Crew. I actually only saw the members seperately during conference and not all together, but I know they rock.
  6. Best Set: Who delivered the Top 3 sets of conference?
    1) Richie Hawtin Sunday - I think it would be a misnomer to call what he does a DJ set now. It's a live performance.
    2) Darren Emerson Saturday
  7. Most memorable (funny or otherwise) experience from conference.
The knackered english lifeguard chasing us down Collins Ave. at 5 in the morning looking for a free ride "North".

The dude standing barefoot on the roof of The Creek Hotel masturbating
  8. What's coming up next for you in 2004?
Mutek in June... really looking forward to that. building up rhythmism.com into something really innovative and special

  1. How was WMC for you?
WMC was amazing. It just gets better every year. Was great because I actually was pretty busy playing gigs this year which makes the whole week that much better. Playing gigs really helps give you that extra boost when you need it and its great to get that exposure to people who have never heard of you. My friends and I definitely did it right this year.
  2. What was your best party / highlight of conference?
Highlight of conference for me was probably the set I played with Dennis Rodgers @ Reserved. We were both really into it and really got into a fun groove. It was our first time really getting to play an extended set together so it was a lot of fun.
  3. What was your worst party / lowlight of conference?
I really can't say there was a lowlight of conference for me. There is too much great stuff happening to ever find yourself at a bad party. I will say the worse part of conference was when I realized it was coming to an end. All of us were rocking out at our condo on the last day and then a big group of us had to leave. All of a sudden the party went from 30 strong to just me and Billy sitting there trying to figure out what had just happened. Luckily Crank Yankers came on to ease the pain. Wu-Tang!
  4. Highlight track(s) of conference?
WMC is what you live for when you make tracks. Hearing my track "Holding On" played at BED by the 112 Crew guys with the reaction it got was amazing. It's definitely the reason why I put so much time and work in the studio. There's nothing quite like that experience. Also great seeing my new one with Dennis go off as the last track of the night.
  5. New talent: DJs ? producers ? live acts that really stood out at conference?
I was rather busy this year between my own gigs and supporting my friends playing that I unfortunately didn't get too see as many people as I would have liked top. But from what I saw of others I'd have to say Matt Licata, Billy Patrick & Dennis Rodgers [all from the 112 Crew] are right up there with the best.
  6. Best Set: Who delivered the Top 3 sets of conference?
Dennis and I managed to hear the last track Richie Hawtin played as we came out of our gig at Reserved. We were standing on the street when everyone came out and that seems to have been the best party we missed.
  7. Most memorable (funny or otherwise) experience from conference.
Gotta say my most memorable experience was the night the professor swung by and took me Dennis, Matt and Billy out. To say it was mecadula would be an understatement.
  8. What's coming up next for you in 2004?
My primary focus when I get back is getting Native Theory Records up and running. We have our first release due to come out in April/May. The track got great reactions down in Miami so I am excited. Hope to make a big splash with the label and continue touring and working on my own productions. After much deliberation with my family and friends I have also decided to continue doing afterhours.
