The Sound of Young New York II is here. Plant Music’s critically acclaimed indie-dance / punk-funk compilation comes back bigger and better, released August 24, 2004. This mix features tracks from the red-hot !!!, The Stills, The Glass, I:Cube feat. Rza, and The Faint remixed by Ursula 1000. Despite the rock-heavy vibe of this installment, it is smoothly beat-matched and mixed together like the first release. In the stagnating dance music world, it is refreshing when someone like Dominique Keegan, Plant’s owner, comes along to stir it up.

‘The Sound of Young New York’ was very well received by the international press (Comp of the issue, Jockeyslut **** Mojo etc.) when it was released in 2003. It’s often viewed as the legacy of Plant Bar, one of New York’s hottest bars until the city’s much-contested anti-dancing laws shut it down for good earlier this year. As X-Ray said of the first offering, “This beat-matched and mixed compilation bottles the fizz of the place where punk again smooched with funk.” Too true. While this release might be heavier on the punk, there is no shortage of funk.
