TORTURED SOUL- (Central Park Records) Nyc
www.torturedsoulmusic.com
http://www.torturedsoulmusic.com/images/splash_photo.jpg
Tortured Soul is music that will move you. It's a new concept in the world of house music: it's live. The instrumentation is simple and organic drums, electric bass, vintage keys, and soulful vocals. Tortured Soul filters club sounds like Afro Beat and Samba through a lens of jazzy House and American Soul to reflect intense grooves evocative of Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, the New Deal, and Fela Kuti.
As Central Park Recordings' signature artist, Tortured Soul is busier than ever. Due out this spring are their next two singles, "Don't Hold Me Down" and "Love Everlasting." Their first full-length album, which showcases their live tracks, as well as, studio productions and re-mixes, is finished and will be released this summer to coincide with an aggressive touring schedule covering the US, Canada, and Europe. Tortured Soul is also featured on DJ Spinna's newest album, Here to There, with a funky remake of his classic track, "Rock." Tortured Soul was conceived in May 2001 by drummer, singer, and songwriter Christian Urich - known in world of house and R&B as founder and leader of the band Cooly's Hot Box. The single "We Don't Have To Be Alone" introduced Cooly's Hot Box to the house music world, and their acid jazz classic "Don't Throw My Love Around" on Polygram's London/Payday Records is featured on the first Giant Steps compilation and as the hook for Armond Van Heldon's "Funk Phenomenon." Urich has worked with such producers as Reggie Lucas (Madonna, Stephanie Mills), DJ Spinna, and Roger Sanchez (on his album First Contact.) The first Tortured Soul single for Central Park Recordings was the now-classic house track "I Might Do Something Wrong" re-mixed by Osunlade. The track was an immediate success, playing weekly at New York's legendary party Body & Soul and altering the sound of Central Park Recordings. Inspired by Tortured Soul the label turned in a new direction, and focused on the fusion of soul with deep house music. Tortured Soul's next two singles involved Alistair Colling and DJ Spinna. For these tracks, Urich incorporated keyboardist Ethan White and bassist Jason Kriveloff. White's style is rhythmic and soulful, blending his background in jazz with Braz pop, African rhythms, and 70's R&B. He leads his own piano trio and frequently lends his sound as a sideman. Conservatory-trained bassist Krivel off fuses the styles of James Jamerson, Bootsy Collins, and Paul Chambers to give Tortured Soul its tight and jazzy bottom end. His Central Park Recordings house project, "The Moves," highlights his writing, singing, and programming skills and debuted at the 2003 Winter Music Conference with "If You Leave Now." The trio had previously recorded the album The Zone with Velour Records' artist, Topaz. They toured for two years with Topaz sharing stages with legends James Brown, Maceo Parker, John Scofield, Soulive, Widespread Panic, and many others. Their first recording as Tortured Soul, "How's Your Life," captures their intuitive musical rapport and presents a smooth soul-house sound with haunting vocals. The project has evolved into a collaboration with three times its original force for pioneering a new genre: live house. With the new album ready to hit, the band is transferring their energy to the stage‹dropping heavy beats and thick bass for the body and soul. The show is powerful. The sound is infectious. The music moves.

THE SHIFT- http://www.dankfunk.com/grafix/bluntedfunkred.jpg
New York City, NY
www.dankfunk.com
http://www.dankfunk.com/shift/photos/theshift_live_800x600.jpg
Part electronic production duo, part live act, The Shift attempts to push the expectations of electronic music without sacrificing quality for novelty. The Shift is the balance of two opposing individuals. Scottie B had been a major figure in the upstate NY DJ scene since 1996, and more recently in New York City. Scott as a DJ, however, was not content to merely keep playing the works of others, but to press his developing ideas onto vinyl. Chris Tempas was a producer of punk and experimental bands and a member of the seminal Crotch Rocket, but longed to escape from the rock and roll narcissism that plagued the genre. They met during an audio production project in 1999, and compared notes. After relocating to Brooklyn, NY, The Shift was born. They immediately began producing solid tracks and remixes, and later the band was born.
As a live act, The Shift has grown into an actual band. Playing eclectic sets ranging from downtempo/trip hop to house, The Shift combines the calculated precision of computers with the organic toppings of live instruments.
The Shift's personelle has solidified into the core group of: Scottie B (drums/sequencing), Chris Tempas (keys), Brian Fegan (guitar), Chris Parkhurst (bass), Judy Kaplan (vocals) and Mike Devillis (sax).

DJ JOPLIN- (pürl, prana) Los Angeles, CA New York City debut!
http://www.jerzshore.com/forum/uploads/post-7-1075700970.jpg
*Biography*
Joplin began her DJ'ing career in 1999, instinctively knowing House
music to be her flavor of choice.* Her deep passion stems from an
extensive musical background- a father who teaches a History of Rock and
Roll college course, over 20 years of dance instruction and 10 years of
the violin. Vinyl seemed the most natural progression!
Sharing the bill with such talent as Inland Knights, Doc Martin, Markus
Nicolai and Lance DeSardi, to name a few, Joplin has worked her way up
and become a well known name in the LA house scene.* With over 150
events in the last five years, including two current residencies, Joplin
is fueled now more than ever to continue the work of understanding and
representing genuinely the music that drives her. She graduated in Fall
of 2003 with a B.A. in Music Technology and Philosophy at California
State University Dominguez Hills.

http://stat.discogs.com/L/3242-001.jpg DJ SPUN (RONG, Noid, Siesta, Big Bear, Filthy Dog, PS1) http://www.bearentertainment.info/images/BIGBEARblackR.gif
Jason Drummond’s musical career began on the left coast back in the 80s, when he played guitar and sang in a handful of punk bands that were opening for legendary acts like the Dead Kennedys, Black Flag and Social Distortion. In 1987, he gave up his promising punk rock career, traded in his guitar for turntables, and soon became immersed in DJ culture. He quickly became an influential force in the early San Francisco house music scene, and defined the west coast funky sound with his 12" release, Central Fire-"This is a Shout Going Out" in 1996. Since moving to New York City to coordinate PS1's legendary Summer Music series Jason has landed himself a residency at APT, produced tracks for a bevy of labels, and started his own label RONG MUSIC. He plays fun, freaky, funky abstract party music.
THOMAS (Wicked Crew, Grayhound, Tummy Touch, Three Sixty Records)
Thomas, a.k.a. "The Mammal", has been DJing for 16 years. He began in London with the Tonka Sound System relocating to San Francisco in '91 where along with Garth, Jeno, and Markie, he formed the Wicked Crew, a collective of renegade DJ's and Promoters that changed the face of American dance music. Thomas has recorded 12" Singles as "The Mammal" & "The Mirror Boys" for several dance labels including Howie B's Pussyfoot Records, DJ Garth's Grayhound Recording's and Tim "Love" Lee's Tummy Touch, and his very own label Three Sixty Records. There's only one really important thing to remember when listening to the Wicked Crew's Thomas throw down a set, you have to completely give in to being in Thomas-land. Give it all up and just go along with what he does. If you're too uptight to hang, or even a little faint-hearted, please stay home when he comes to play at a club near you.

AJDA- Maestrovista

http://www.maestrovista.com/Graphics/adjaspinning.jpg
Emerging onto the DJ circuit is a young lady dj that is known simply as Ajda. Mostly influenced by the deep, funky house music thriving in the San Francisco club scene during the late 90’s, she is one of the few female DJ’s who remains true to the deep house sound. Now living on the East Coast in New York City (after a six year residence in San Francisco) Ajda is soon to be known in the house music scene as a solid representative of teched-up, sexy, soulful, edgy, bass drivin’ beats. More specifically, this style of house music is what Ajda uses to communicate to the masses her “vision” and passion of the underground deep house sound, very recognizable of the San Francisco flavor. Coming very soon, Ajda will make her production debut, pounding out her first release with fellow S.F. artist/DJ/producer, Russell Vargas.

New York City-based DJ Miss Bliss is on a mission to pioneer the breakbeat sound in a place where four-to-the-floor is the norm. Known for intense sets at her own weekly party in the heart of the East Village, she's also been spreading the breakbeat gospel in such far flung places as Los Angeles, CA; Panama City, FL; Boston, MA; Atlanta, GA; Burlington, VT; Birmingham, AL and Toronto, Canada. When she isn't on the road, she's holed up in her home recording studio masterminding the release of her debut tracks.
Miss Bliss started at a young age with classical piano and worked her way through musical influences as diverse as jazz, reggae, and surf-rock. By high school Miss Bliss began attending the seminal Konkrete Jungle parties where she got her first delectable taste of drum & bass and breakbeat. But the fun really began when Miss Bliss moved to LA for college where she quickly became an integral part of the close-knit electronic music scene on campus. She began spinning at the student-organized weekly party "Table Manners," which soon led to frequent gigs at campus events, house parties, and charity fundraisers. With breakbeats coursing through her veins, Miss Bliss graduated and returned home to get to work. Once back in New York, Miss Bliss oversaw the breaks and jungle content of clubplanet.com while continuing to hone her DJing skills at her own strictly-breaks "Sunday School" weekly in Spring/Winter 2001. She later started "Big Apple Breaks" at Coal with DJ Wool which is no longer running.
Miss Bliss has been featured, reviewed and interviewed by such publications as Time Out NY, Jive Magazine, Lunar Magazine, Madsounds, Weekend Insider, and React.
She is currently producing music at her NYC studio and looking forward to spreading the love for breaks at venues around the globe.
Miss Bliss has performed with: Lee Coombs, Krafty Kuts, Sam Class of '83, DJ Fixx, Debbie D, DJ 43, Josef Plante, Spacegirl, Satoshi Tomiie, Hector Romero, Adam Beyer, Christian Smith, DJ Odi, Polywog, Justin Johnson, Tom Grin, DJ Tracey, Siren, Eve, The Punisher, Trixie and many more.
