Bands making a stir over here at the moment are:
The Stands
The Stills
Franz Ferdinand
The Darkness
However, I think these are shit (except maybe the Darkness), but some people like them.
My recommendations are:
THE LIBERTINES
The D4
The Datsuns
The Bellrays (An acquired taste)
The Libertines
Muse (especially Showbiz, Origin of Symettry, actually, fuck it, there all good)
Queens of the Stone Age (Stoner Rock really)
Did I say The Libertines?
Orange Goblin (A bit heavier)
Workhorse Movement (Acquired taste again)
Nebula (GENIUS guitar work)
The Libertines
pt - The Libertines.

I gotta agree that I'm not much into the "new stuff". I grew up in a household where we listened to:
Jimi Hendrix
Cream
The Who
Pink Floyd
Led Zepplin
Janis Joplin
Rainbow
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Alice in Chains
NIN
Sound Garden
Metallica
G-n-R
Pantera
Janes Addiction
Megadeth
Danzig
STP
Obituary
I could go on forever with this topic.
To date though, my favorite all time artist is without a doubt, none other, than Janis Joplin. She was just the absolute best!
 San - early Aerosmith. Like, when they wrote their own stuff as oppose to "pre-sell out to bubble gum cheesy pop"

to that godamn "Never never Land" CD!)
M.B.V
Franz Ferdinard
The Veils

I can't believe people can dismiss all new "rock n roll" music as crap.
Some of it is as innovative, deep and clever as a lot of the old stuff.

I do like some of the new stuff but not nearly as much as the old goodies. I can admit to listening to Puddle of Mudd, System of a Down, Linkon Park and others. I just happen to "prefer" the older bands.
Besides, the newer bands are influenced by the seniors. ;)

So where the old bands..
The funny thing about "NEW MUSIC"
is that many people don't get it
till it's old-school! ;)
*If I really started to post all
the old stuff I love I'd never stop..
(There's decades to cover with that topic)
Here's a couple more NEW ROCK albums
I'm diggin at the moment:
TRANS AM:" Liberation"
LIARS: "They where wrong so we
drowned"
THE POTOMAC ACCORD: "In
one hundred years the prize will
be forgotten"

I despair if this is what you call new rock and roll.

Not necessarily true, there's a lot of new flavours being pushed by other bands.
