Subliminal Records head shows off both DJ and Production sides.
Superstar DJ Erick Morillo has been busy. Playing clubs and festivals around the world, hanging with the celebrity in-crowd, and running his own record label will do that, but Erick has still found the time to release “The 2 Sides of My World,” this January. The massive four disc set showcases both the DJ and producing talents that have made Morillo so popular. Aspects of the artist’s DJ side are highlighted with the inclusion of the “Subliminal Winter Sessions 2” compilation, while his original productions are the focus of his long-awaited debut artist album “My World.” It features a virtual who’s who of guest collaborators, including Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Boy George and DJ Rap.
"I've been making this album for about two years," Morillo explains. “I’ve had the idea in my head for a while, but the album took a backseat when I started Subliminal in 1997. Once everything was set with that, I could concentrate on making music. I haven’t stopped [making music] in 12 years, and this album is the next step. I'm really happy with the results. I'm fed up with all these faceless producers in dance music. It's time we took it to another level and gave people someone to identify with. I want to get everybody back into dance, not just the hardcore clubbers. This music should be as big as hip hop.”
The release comes after a very successful year for the New York native: His residency this summer at Spain’s club Pacha led to him being crowned “Ibiza’s Best DJ” by Mixmag, the album was well received upon its European debut, and was accompanied with a dazzling video for the song “Break Down the Doors” featuring the beautiful Naomi Campbell. Now he’s turned his attention back to his hometown, recently blowing the roof of off a recent party at mega-club Crobar for a sold-out pack of 4400 revelers. It’s his world; we’re just lucky we get to play in it.
“The 2 Sides of My World” will be released by Subliminal January 25th. The first U.S. single, “What Do You Want,” features the vocals of Terra Deva, with remixes by Harry “Choo Choo” Romero, Kenny Hayes, Minimal Chic, Tom Novy, and Fuzzy Hair. For the production of this track, Morillo teamed up with long-time label mate and fellow producer Harry “Choo Choo” Romero. Photos, album art, and a new MP3 store are online at www.erickmorillo.com and www.subliminalrecords.com.
What the critics are already saying about Erick Morillo’s album, “My World”:
“Producer of the musical elite, Mr. Morillo has decided to stop making hits for other people and have a stab at things himself. And it’s big. …genius.” - FHM UK
