So electro is techno that got some jism in it?
Is that like when Q-tip says "what is a poet all balls no cock?" So would techno have no cock or would that be electro.
Anyway, I like em both whatever they are.

Definitely true. Dave Clarke has been doing it forever. I think it's gotten a lot more attention lately b/c electro has become such a big thing in its own right - esp electro clash.

BULLSH:T !!!!!!
STOP.
(hammertime).
no SERIOUSLY.....this is killing me like nails on a blackboard....
please refer to the above diagram about the BD HH X---X---X---X--- etc etc. electro is a very easily define genre of music. it is not some sort of ill-defined vocab or ambiguous color.
check it: its like when you have one of those old casio keyboards with button A for samba and button B for waltz or whatever on them. electro and techno are based on different simple underlying beats. the BD mean bass drum aka kick drum aka the low bass pulse of the music. if you stick you fingers in your ears you will still hear the kick drum. if its techno or house you will have a "four-four" kick drum or some slight variation on that theme. thats if you count 1-2-3-4 along with the music over and over again. the snare drum the high-hats the rest really doesnt matter, its the 4-4 that makes it techno/house.
electro on the other hand, very similar to hip hop, drum&base, and booty-music, goes like this with the kick and the snare drum (kyi the snare is that sharp high sound of a military drum or a drumroll). stomp you foot (kick) and clap (same as snare) your hands along please:
kick - clap - kick - kick - clap
you just made electro.
now you can also count 1-2-3-4 with electro too, have you friend go "shhhhhhhhh-shhhhhhhhh-shhhhhhhhh-shhhhhhhhh" juuuuuust a little before each number.....but notice that only the 1 lines up and the rest of the kicking and claping goes just before or after the 2-3-4 but not exactly on it.
now have another friend go "hibby hibby hibby hawwwwwww" and another go "chukkachukka chukkachukka" and send a casette tape of it please to: STOP ABUSING THE TERM ELECTRO, p.o. box 808, nyny 10011
also for the record: i have NEVER heard hawtin play an electro record (well last time at avalon he did play one and i was surprised, but then it seemed like he had miscued the wrong track or something outta finalscratch) he sets are extremely 4-4. again, see the diagram above.
and yes its entirely possible to mix the two together in one song, so a song could be made with bits from each, and i kinda like tracks like that, blah blah blah, and electro has the whole sci-fi thing about it and there are other defining characteristics of both forms, BUT most track are usually clearly one or the other.
thank you, carry on...

I remember someone telling me this story about how Miss Kitten started djing (I don't know if it's true or not): Her and her b/f are at home hangin out. Her b/f is playing mixing some records. Kitten says "Why don't you mix like this/that?", and her b/f replies: "If you know it that well, why don't you come mix yourself?".. And she gets on the decks..... It turns out she has some good ideas there :)
