coool, you've been before right? so, how expensive is it once you are there?

abgrover
Mar 26th, 2004, 03:02 PM
Well...hmm to start:
About $8-900 for transatlantic flight, plus the domestic flight to island. (about 100-150 more) so total airfare is between 1000 and 1200 (which is why a package like bringiton.com might make sense because they can give you a hotel and airfare together)

Hotel: we stayed at a place that was in a great location for $70 per night (5 years ago) and there was no air conditioning...love the place and the owner but am never doing that again. You need AC! We're looking for a hotel room for this year. For a villa you need to stay minimum 1 week, from Sat to Sat, most are for 2 week rentals. (not really good if you don't have a big group and want flexibility) www.festivetravel.com (use them every time to find a place)

Drinks: mixed drinks mean you need to pay for the alcohol and mixer separately (let's say 10 euros on average). Buy liquor from duty-free at airport before you go, and drink before you go out. Water—that's a big expense. You can't drink from the tap or refill your bottles in the club because the water in the faucets is sea water.

Food: You can eat cheap. We only ate 1 big meal a day in the past. No appetite. ;) Bought some food to keep in the room (had a mini fridge).

Club entry: 5 years ago it was between $25 and $45 but since the conversion to Euros isn't as good it may be more this year. Try to get flyers from the people handing them out at the parade every night or at Bora Bora beach. Buy tickets in advance at clothing shops or record stores for bigger parties. Try to befriend some bar owners who may be able to hook you up.

Car rental: I recommend this if you are staying anywhere other than Ibiza-town. Oh, and one summer the cab drivers were on strike and every disco bus to the other side of the island was full. That's when it really came in handy. You'll also want it if you are going to explore more remote beaches.

:) : the only things that are reasonably priced.

Hope that helps.

it's 50 euros to get into pacha.

red bull/vodka or jd/cokes = 15 euros
regular vodka/limon = 10 euros

drink prices are like that basically everywhere.

A few tips....

Don't stay in San Antonio... it's where all the young punters stay. I recommend Playa Den Bossa.

Spend the extra dollars on a nice hotel. Most places don't serve food and don't have air conditioning. You'll regret staying in a place that doesn't. I recommend the Goleta or Torre Del Mar. You're gonna be partying your ass off so I'ts good to have a place where you'll actually be able to rest for a few hours. I came home from the clubs everynight, took a shower, ate breakfast at the hotel, and then headed right back out to afterhours.... Doing so allowed me to party everynight without any problems... take care of yourself and you won't run out of juice.

Stock up on water and other necessities... When you come home from afterhours everyone is taking Siesta... Most places close down between 10am and 3pm give or take an hour or so.

Bring It On tours is OK if it's your first time. It definitely helps to have people you can contact who know the deal. I went with them in 2002, it was OK but they screwed up a few things which was kind of disappointing. Alot of people on the tour were dissappointed. If I go again, I'll do it on my own..

One more thing... this may seem cheesy to some but I live by it. You are going to Ibiza... this is the big game, so if you're gonna make the most of it, get yourself in shape. I'm not saying become a juicehead and pack on the muscles, but if you have a gym membership use it. The more natural energy you have, the more fun you will have. Plus, you won't get sick as easily when you get back.

Have fun!!!! And yes everything you've heard about Ibiza is true... It's that f'in good!!!

We're aiming for July 1-9 in South of Spain (Gibraltar, Sevilla, Malaga), and 9-17 or 18th in Ibiza.
Not planned yet though.

Gibralter is cool, but only for a day or so. It would probably be cool to spend the night there but anything more that 1.5 days and you would be bored. Also, Gibralter is a British protectorate so everything is in Pounds and is waaaaaaaaay more expensive than the Spanish city of Gibralter right next door.

Malaga..........SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS. It's a fucking ghettooooooooooo. They have a very convenient airport, but that's all its good for. Get your rental car at the airport and don't even bother with the city of Malaga. It's nothing but ugly government high rise housing built during the Franco years  I higly suggest staying in Marbella your first night on the mainland. Kick ass beach town/city with a cool vibe. But seriously, fuck Malaga!

The best city in southern Spain is definitely Tarifa which is on the very southern tip of Spain and is only about a two hour drive south of Gibralter. I HIGHLY recommend staying here. That town is going to BLOW UP in the next ten years. Similar to one of the central Californian surf towns. Everyone there is either a surfer or a kiteboarder  But yeah, make sure you take route N-240 along the coast. Amazing!

ps - FUCK MALAGA. that place sucks. when you see it Kim, you'll agree!

The main thing that I'd like to see is the Alhambra.
After that, pretty little towns that are off the beaten path.

:)
It's gonna be a great vacation.

La Troya
Mar 30th, 2004, 01:42 AM
Looks like I am going to be sitting it out this year, but a few pointers:

Wednesday night, La Troya Assessina @ Amnesia terrace.
BEST PARTY IN THE WORLD.
Even if you decide to go to Subliminal, when it ends, catch the last couple of hours of this one. Towards the end of the party they usually hand out a good number of free passes to the afterhours at Space in the back bar. Be sure to be aware of this, and save 30 euros!

If you have to go to Sunday at Space, save yourself the hassle, and don't go till early afternoon. Prepare to overpay, sweat to death, and dance with your eyelashes. I think that this party is over hyped.

DC10 Monday morning till about 10pm. DO NOT MISS!!
No point in going before 2pm imo. and bring sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen, because it is REALLY out in the open.

Best afterhours at Space are usually on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. Don't miss Matinee Group. They have banging afterhours!

When Space closes around 4pm, Bora Bora keeps going and going and going, till past midnight :D

There are a couple of small lounges woth indoor and outdoor areas off the beaten track with a great local scene.
Km5 and U-Turn. The night that we went to U-Turn, Bushwacka was spinning there, and it was pretty hush hush...

As for beaches...make the effort and go to Playa de Salinas (you need a car though). Prettier than Bora Bora, better looking people (HOT!), and most importantly on the right days, you will find promoting crews with comps and reduced to parties (mostly Matinee...)

And don't bother with San Antonio...after all these times in Ibiza, I finally took the time last year to go one afternoon. Over priced and over hyped.

grrr....maybe I will go again this year...hmmm...must...fight...urge...

I think everyone should experience at least one sunset there. Don't stick around and hang out in the pub neighborhood though...too many trashed UK teenagers pissing and puking in the streets. It gets rather nasty.

There is a beach on the west side that I like (south of San Antonio)...it isn't a disco beach but it's clear and shallow and beautiful...It's called Cala Tarida. (more of a relaxing family beach but sometimes you need a break) :)

Also, make sure to explore D'Alt Villa (old walled medieval village above Ibiza-town) at night. It's a really interesting walk.

I just booked on Iberia.com and saved $900 in airfare.
:)

They are having a sale on flights from US to Spain and if you leave on or before June 30th you can get to the mainland for around $525 round trip. Don't know if that includes Ibiza, (because of my itinerary, I had to book a round trip from Barcelona to Ibiza separately for $171 per person roundtrip) so...in total, you can fly to Ibiza for about $700 which is at least $300 less than what I've paid in the past.

So, I will be in Barcelona for a day, Seville for 2, Cadiz or Tarifa for a day, Ronda for a day, Granada for 2 days, and Ibiza for 8 days.
:)

and now, I'm off to book hotels...
