mixed cdssssssss

so upon arrival from miami, I have been hearing cds that have been handed to me.... unsurprisingly, I have heard some tasteless mixes...

ive heard underground hard tracks into commercial tracks into tribal tracks into trancy/super electric wack tracks into old school tracks... NO CONSISTANCY. It seems that people are just trying to get across a blend and have lost their originality unless that is their originality which doesnt wow me at all. It's a musical rollercoaster that leaves me :sick: at the end of the ride.

What's up w/ that?

DJs... dont try to impress people w/ a song from every category of your crates... stick to YOUR style... and if you are going to switch up the styles, do it gracefully... make the music flow like a beautiful wave of sound!

You hear a lot of bad mixes because there are a lot of shite DJs saucy. An every wanker on earth is in Miami passing their shit out. I've heard some nice ones that I got down there.

And I don't know if "your style" means "one style". Playing in many geners (within reason of course) and making one good whole sound is the art of it all, isn't it? It's easier to play all tracks that are of a similar style to chieve constancy of sound, but to blur the lines a bit and do so is nice too.

i cover like 3 or 4 genres when i make a cd, cuz thats how i play. you have to condense 2-3 hours worth of a set into 60-80 minutes. its the only way to do it without making a different cd for each genre, to give to each promoter based on what they're into.


this is also largely why you see very few mix cds from me :lol:

I feel ya sun! I totally agree with you. I just hate it when someone says they spin but have no FLAVAAAAA. I am definately not a "one style" kat, but im saying if you are going through styles in a mix, then do it right.

Im just being a critic. This morning i heard 2 mixes from 2 djs with a track that i detest! It's so waaaaaack. I felt like throwing the cds out the window. They were okay, but when they took it there, I said ah! automatically disqualified.

What's wrong with making a different mix for each genre? Transitions from deep house to prog to trance to breaks to dnb to trip-hop (to etc. and etc.) is nearly impossible within the 80-minute context of a CD.
not if its done right.


i received a cd about 2 weeks ago with 44 tracks on it in 70 minutes, programmed perfectly. from lush ethereal downtempo to the most grinding bass-laden breakbeat and everything in between... hiphop, electro, funk, the works.


granted it was done with the help of ableton but thats another arguement altogether.


besides, whenever i get more than one cd from a dj, i kinda laugh. i only have so much time to listen to music in a day, one's enough.
