So I just got back to Rome after a weekend in
the "Dam". I’m also 100% sure that I left my brain
over there. All I really feel like doing today
is to sit somewhere with good DUB in a
cloud of second hand mist..grinning like
some retarded hobbit. (Not that I don’t
do that often enough mind you..but
the coffee shop mentality has kicked up
a notch or two persay)

Amsterdam is the coolest of the cool..
It’s like Pinochio’s "Pleasure Island"
minus the donkeys. People are extremely nice
and culturally fascinating. And the music..
Ooohhhh good lord the music. Techno and
everything under the electronic rainbow
pours out of every head shop and pub..
(I visited some of the coolest record shops
over this last weekend..a temptation too
strong to pass up after munchin on space
brownies.)

Thank god for Thom (My friend from LIVESETS.COM)
Or I would have been a homeless guy crashing
at Amsterdam Central with a bag full of tracks.

These Livesets and Dutchtechno.com guys
are phenomenal. They managed to pull in
TRESOR to the Dam at a reasonable prize.
Rumormill had it Mad Max was booked
for a much better paid gig but switched a
date JUST to play for the gang, who are
avid Tresor heads. (In fact they met
these cats in Berlin upon a Tresor
pilgrimage)

Livesets had people from Belgium, Germany
and of course Italy (myself) coming down
for the festivities..a weekend full of great
fun and great vibes..

I spent most of Friday exploring Damstrak
near the station..meeting strange characters
at coffee shops and pubs and engaging in
"waking life" type conversations. (One cat
turned out to be a Lawyer from France who
kept quoting Jerry Garcia all the time.)
After a while I met up with Thom and
we went back to his pad in the
Indian quarter..

The TRESOR party was at this place
called AMUSE (Lijnbaansgracht) just across the Melkweg
..Great spot with kind of a Filter 14 kinda
vibe (Only bigger and better sound)
We rolled in around 10:00 and stayed till 5:30ish?
(THEE only crap thing is the fact that most clubs
have to close at that hour)

(AMUSE:)

STEVE D was warming up the joint earlier
on..I hung out and reconnected with familiar
faces I hadn’t seen since NATURE ONE (as
well as meeting an entire universe of new ones).
Nothing too crazy or mind blowing at this
hour..just a nice ride that was starting to
build it up..

MAD MAX went on around
midnight or so and by 1:00 the place was
banging and packed to the rimm..He was
what I was waiting for..that TRESOR
vibe I experienced inside a bomb shelter
many months ago at N1.

However the peek of the evening was
the Recyver Dogs LIVE PA
SET they threw together

…Minimal,
acidy at times with absolute dark energy.
I couldn’t stop bouncing around..Even with a
half glass of Vodka and a Frozen pop on
the other (which I would dip into the
Vodka from time to time)

After Amuse we made our way to
the after party at TWISTED. A
very cozy joint with a descent
sound system and friendly staff.

This joint sees A-list DJs like
JEFF MILLS and Garnier pop
in announced to play for free
from time to time. This morning
had the local dutchtechno gang
keeping the party rollin..Sets
ranged from electro-tinged to
funky Chicken-lipesque and
minimal techno.

By the time we crawled out of that place
the sun was beating down on
the streets. We hopped on a Tram
and I passed out from the gazzilion
drinks and party favors everyone kept
offering me all night. (Just how do these
dutchmen manage to last all night
with so much energy and party so hard?)

The next day was a comatose reality
that crawled at a dead slug’s pace.
I think I got up from the couch to use
the bathroom four times in a painful
effort. I only managed to push myself
out of the apt as night fell to explore
the red light district..But I won’t
tell you what went down in those
neck of the woods..

However Monday, fresh and rested, I got up
early and did the sight seeing toursity
stuff..The rain and wind from the previous
days wound down and patches of sunshine
opened up for my last few hours. I shopped
and managed to see some museums before having to
rush it back to the airport. I slept the entire flight
to Rome like a baby. What a great weekend.
Amsterdam IS a state of mind..and once
you experience it you just want to keep going
back for more..

BIG PROPS to LIVESETS.com (http://www.livesets.com/index.php?) and www.dutchtechno.com
for everything. You people are beautiful..Keep that
vibe alive!! I’ll catch you all soon..
