Last track on disc 1 of Cattaneo's Renaissance comp. is a PQM track called Aenema. The Lyrics are from the Tool track aenima......now, i know this will be released on vinyl and will be sold on EDMDigital.com starting 4/24. I somehow doubt (but hope i am wrong) that PQM received permission from tool to use the lyrics. I find it funny that producers complain about the state of the industry and piracy and yet will resort to piracy themselves....This is by no means a sample...it is a whole verse of the song(and title) and they actually mention Tool in the track description on the site.

I know PQM is not alone in this...i am not trying to single him out...he is just an example

BTW- the track is growing on me ;)

I hope so, amy but maynard seems like the type who would be protective of his lyrics.....or conversely could give two shits....def. one of the extremes....

here is another example from a few years ago

The track is less than stellar considering the work it rips off
MURPH- Dark Sympathy (Planet Heaven Mix)

Now , i seriously doubt Henryk Gorecki would give permission to a guy named Murph to make a dance track out of one of the best classical pieces of the 20th century

he might not own the rights (maybe his label does?). i really have no idea.

As a reference you chould check into whether that PQM track "You Are Sleeping" properly liscensed the Smith's sample it uses. Sine it was released on Yoshitoshi I gather it was done properly. Odds are that the label releasing the record is negotiating the rights to use the work with Tool's label. Hernan Cattaneo's name is big enough to sell enough to make a lawsuit quite worthwhile.

If they are samples they need to be cleared. Now if the song is re-sung then it is treated as if it were a cover and the rights that need to be paid royalties is for the songwriting only. These kinds of rights are far less $$$ to clear.

Several producers I know are making money off bootleg remixes these days, regular tunes just ain't movin' that many units right now.
