during movement there are afterparties everywhere - including lots of places that arent normally house/techno oriented. just keep your eyes out for flyers and go with your gut. i have no clue about the exclusively gay scene, but most movement parties will be gay friendly
airport is maybe 20-30 minutes from downtown - depends where you are going and traffic

If you're flying into Wayne County Airport, downtown is about 20-30 minutes. I'm not sure about City Airport.
If you're going for Movement, there will be no shortage of good music all around. There's not many clubs in downtown, most of the afterparties will be in art spaces or galleries, warehouses, or studios around downtown/Eastern Market.
There are no gay clubs that I know of in the downtown area, most of them are out in the burbs past 8 Mile, but if you're going to any of the after-parties with some of the old guard Detroit DJ's - Derrick, Stacey, Kevin, Terrence, Mike Clark, Theo, Carl, etc., it will be most likely a mixed crowd. Do not expect the vibe to be FIERCE, knowhatimsayin? But you will have a good time and the music will be top notch.

Hey, do NOT diss the Digital Underground, yo. The radio station I used to work at is in the collage of photos on the first album and my man Kenny K (RIP) did some of the scratches and cuts and stuff on the album.

you think? I'm a bit removed these days, but it seems like everytime I get down there, you see some signs of progress than you have in years. More so than from Archer anyways, and waaaaay more than from Coleman.
besides, he's the hip-hop mayor

"These are not random acts of violence," said Howard Hughey, a spokesman for the mayor's office."These are not random acts of violence," said Howard Hughey, a spokesman for the mayor's office.
if not random, are they regular, and systemic? planned, organized, and scheduled?
no matter what they are, they're frequent violent acts, and that's pretty sad, considering that it was in the 1940's that Detroit first started dealing with the higher-than-average crime rate, and recognized the problems of people fleeing the city for the suburbs... and it was in the 1950's that the city began trying to draw people back in from said suburbs.
been successful so far, don't you think? :nonono:

i think most of the progress is residual from archer. i liked kwame at first, but i get the impression he's flat out of ideas already. moreover, his whole hip hop street ethic isnt exactly enticing to business. its like having suge knight as mayor.

i grew up in detroit ....
i've never been, but check out panacea. pick up a metrotimes for a good idea of whats going on.
there's like 2 gay clubs in the entire town i think.... *shrug* ... and the better DJs are NOT djing there.
anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour from the airport to downtown depending on traffic.
during the demf all the galleries (cpop, detroit contemporary, tangent, others ...) throw afterparties and there are usually a bunch of warehouse and loft parties. that's usually where the best things are going on.
