they're for news ticker services. basically you can plug them into a news plugin (trillian has one) and it will let you know about updates, stories, etc. lots of major news sites, blogs etc do them now.

How about letting us embed RSS feeds into posts?

When discussing articles that are somewhere else, a RSS link to a summary of it could be useful instead of cut and paste (with attribution.)

i highly recommend Bloglines (www.bloglines.com) as a Web-based RSS reader.

since it's Web-based, Bloglines allows you to stay up to date with all your RSS feeds whether you're at work, at home, at an Internet cafe, or logged in from a smartphone or PDA. (Bloglines automatically reformats itself to fit small mobile devices.)

also, Bloglines offers a tiny taskbar plug-in for Windows, Mac OS and Linux that will tell you when you have new headlines waiting. this plugin can monitor your RSS feeds as much as every 30 seconds, so you're seriously plugged-in. furthermore, it's completely ad-free. (and just free in general.)

check it out. Bloglines has completely changed the way i get my news.
