I'm planning a bachlorette weekend for my friend in Ft. Lauderdale the first weekend in October. We have a hookup for a free, totally sweet condo on the beach for the weekend -- one of the bridesmaids is married to a wealthy man who works in "communications" in Latin America. ;)
Anyway, the main plan is to chill on the beach, but we'll probably go out Saturday night. Is there any place in Ft. lauderdale worth going to, or should we trek to Miami? And where's good in Miami, if we do go there? Keep in mind, these girls are not house music people. I've taken them to good hosue clubs and they've had fun, but in general they like a pretty tame, mainstream scene.
Also, I know this is not exactly the source for wedding etiquette, but I thought I'd throw this question at ya: should we buy the bride's plane ticket, or does she buy it and we just treat her to meals and stuff while she's there?

If you want to have some fun in Lauderdale, go to the Voodoo lounge on Sunday night if you can make it. They have an out door patio, with some hip hop out there, and the inside is really nice and cushy and they play house musik, but nothing heavy. The reason for the sunday night, is that they have a drag show there, which was funny as hell the night I was there and might be fun for a bachelorette party. You can get a table up front and check out the "ladies" and laugh your asses off. But take note, this is by far not a gay club and the people there looked pretty normal all around. My parents were in town the week after I went home and they went and had a blast as well.

We're heading back sunday afternoon so we'll have to go Saturday night. Still worth it? What's the cover? Anyway we can get reduced or comped admission? Sorry for the firestorm of questions. :)

Not sure about a Saturday night, but from what I've heard, its pretty much always a good time there and the place itself is really nice. The cover was like $7, and I have no clue about any lists. The reason for the Sunday fun, is that all of the bartenders and restaurant people go there after 12 and thats when the place picked up and the show started. Soooo, I might just have to say to hit up Miami cause you can be sure something there will be going on there, but if you want to give it a try, you will most likely have fun at Voodoo.

For what it's worth, it looked like parking in Miami (assuming you go to one of the clubs on South Beach) looked like a REAL pain... I wasn't driving anywhere so REALLY wasn't paying attention, but I don't remember seeing any lots/parking decks anywhere so that might be tough.
