Wow! Scored a ticket to their sold out show at Bowery Ballroom last night and it was pretty amazing. Something about the cd just made me think they would kill live and they really did. Ethereal and distorted rock landscapes rhythmically punched out and layered with vocal whispers/snarls/howls/screams and doomsday scriptures. (Joel, you're gonna hate this) But they sound like a cross between My Bloody Valentine and The Velvet Underground. The whole audience was lost in a trance. The lead singer has some sort of disease which makes him emaciatedly thin and he wore a dress through half the show. No matter, nothing can distract you from their music live. You get lost in it. They literally put you in another world. :)

deerhunter is on of one of my favorite labels called 'kranky', and i was very disappointed to have missed this show last night. from deerhunters album "crypotgrams" i love the tracks 'intro', 'white ink', and 'red ink'. maybe i'll catch them in baltimore maryland later this month on a road trip to d.c.

i just found out Deerhunter opened a few shows for the Smashing Pumpkins (which is my fave band as everyone here probably knows by now). Funny how the universe moves.
