Red X Posting Pictures

Why do I always always always get the little red x when trying to post pictures?

I mean besides the obvious reasons: I'm a jackass, a dumbshit etc.

By the way, I did search to see if this had been asked already. If I missed it, apologies, but see the above statement.

manage attachments; browse; double click on the file from my hard drive; upload; double click on the uploaded hyperlink and place the resulting address between image tags within the body of the post; then usually remove the thumbnail
