It was a very interesting weekend. The festival itself was not that impressive, The lineup just lacked luster & did not have a flow as it did in years passed. My two highlights of the festival were Anthony Rother & Tiga. I guess I should be happy because it gave me a chance to sleep during the day to prepare myself for the awesome after parties that they had this year.
Saturday afternoon i was so excited to go to SIDS/UR and buy some vinyl but they were not open. so i spent the next two days begging the ur guys to open shop & take pity on their faithful followers,They did not. So now its time to eat, where to go? deep into Detroit to go get some soul food. We were all amazed at how cheep the food was & ate like kings for almost nothing. So I get to the festival in time for francois K it was nice to see him out in detroit but something was just off for me. Carl Cox is just a big happy man who's energy is infectious & the crowd loved it. We stopped by a couple of After Parties and never ended up going in because we just saw to many people we knew outside & began conversating. The one party i did end up going to was the resolute party with Adam Beyer. Those wacky kids were partying well into sunday afternoon I found out.
So sunday afternoon rolls upon us and i took a couple of friends over to 8 mile and what an experience that was, even if we do not really care for eminem & his music we have alot of respect for him. Driving through the trailer park was just so surreal & humbling. So it is now sunday night 9:30 & we are on the made in detroit stage with Anthony Rother. All I can say is WOW! The energy was contagious & everyone that i saw had a smile on their face from ear to ear! So now we are all amped & ready to go Deep into detroit to go see Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, James Penington (Suburban Knight) & Traxx. Yes i know i promised so many people id go to so many parties but I just couldnt leave this party it was THAT FUCKIN GOOD! I ended up staying all night in he room that Penington & Traxx were in. Let me tell you something, Traxx ended up being my Highlight of Detroit! I do not know what bug bit that man but WHOA! He gave me new faith in the DJ........ the way he was workin those records & cdj's was something i have not seen in a very long time! I ended up staying at that party till 7am with a smile on my face as if i were 14 again!
This isnt footage from the warehouse party but it will give you a hint of what an experience this man is!
So back to the hotel for some rest because i have to drive back to NY to get chiron to work on Tuesday morning. I was up by 10 am so i decided to go to the old Miami until i had to be out of the hotel @ 2 pm..... I love this party its the only thing to do on a monday morning. This party screwed up our whole day because we never made it out of Detroit until 9:30 pm.............. Any way Matt dear was playing & very well i might add until some guy that i found out was ryan elliot would totally fuck up his flow & sound & mix in music that just didnt go with what he was playing.......... Like seriously no one wanted to hear you couldnt you just let dear play at least 3 in a row before you wanted the spotlight? Then to destroy the groovy vibe even more Damien Lazarus had to get up on the tables as well......... when matt dear left so did the whole party basically............. but that was ok i think it was like 5pm anyway......... so back to the festival we went! We listened to carl craig for a while & then went to the beatport stage cause i wanted to listen to tiga. I ended up catching Ellen alien for the last 15 mins.......... i really need to ask what is all the hype for about this woman......... i was like if this is what djing is then i really should start playing out......... ugh. Tiga came on & the crowd went nuts, he was just bangin out the good vibes with his music......... after that it was back to the main stage for los hermanos where i got to hang out with my NY & Detroit Peeps before getting on the road.
so now i must wait till the 6th for a night out that i will have as much fun as i did this weekend.
Jeff MIlls Anyone?
