This Friday, February 3rd, Basic is excited to welcome back to New York the esteemed Tronic head honcho himself Christian Smith In the early 2000s, Christian was synonymous with techno in NYC, helming the legendary Tronic Treatment Monday night parties at multiple venues around town. Ever since those days, he’s become one of the dominant names in the international techno scene, touring from city to city and dropping massive tune after massive tune. This is an extremely rare return to NYC for Christian, and he’ll be throwing down his funked up fusion of techno and house in the intimate confines of Williamsburg’s Loreley, for Basic’s second Tanz! event.
Currently, few producers are as sought after in the techno and tech-house world than Christian Smith. His own label Tronic has become a powerhouse, with Christian’s own originals and remixes earning the imprint acclaim from the world’s top DJs and clubgoers alike. In 2010, Christian notched one of the tunes of the year with his breathtaking remix of Carl Craig’s classic “At Les”, turning the town into a euphoric club monster. Then in 2011 he did it again – recrafting Underworld’s epic “Dark & Long” and turning it into a hypnotic, contemporary masterpiece. And while he’s at it, he’s also released gems on labels as diverse as John Digweed’s Bedrock, the Dutch underground imprint 100% Pure, Marc Romboy’s Systematic and many more. Meanwhile Tronic has become a go-to brand for discovering new talent – showcasing new sounds from Dosem, Bart Skils, Wehbba, Doomwork, Psycatron and more rising stars.
This is the first time Basic has hosted Christian Smith, and Loreley is an ideal venue for the night. Smack dab in the heart of Williamsburg, Loreley is a German restaurant and bar with an extensive menu of imported beers and traditional food; we’ll be opening the party at 8pm for early eats. For the late night, there’s bumping new sound system and DJ booth, a spacious outdoor garden, projection screen, and plenty of room to get down. Joining Christian and Basic residents Sleepy & Boo on the decks will be a host of NYC guests, including Matias Jofre and K1W1 of the weekly Rite of Wednesdays techno jam at Bar 13, and Christian’s former Tronic co-conspirator PJay, who has been holding things down over at the National Undrground. Warming things up will be Roman Chamomile, and we’ll be celebrating B-Days for Roman and Matias on the night. Let’s welcome back Christian to NYC for this special night in Brooklyn.
