The techno titan Dave Clarke is a regular fixture at the world’s top clubs and festivals, month in and month out. But there’s one destination that’s been conspicuously absent from his itinerary for the last few years – New York City. That’s finally changing this Saturday, June 9th, when Basic welcomes Dave Clarke to (le) Poisson Rouge for his long-overdue return to the city. Clarke is techno its purest form, a no-compromises artist and visionary who has stayed true to his musical vision since day one. They're honored to host him this Saturday at LPR for a powerhouse night of underground music.
Dave Clarke exploded onto the international techno scene in the mid-90s, with his now legendary “Red” series of releases. Since then it’s been full-on for Clarke, taking up residence in Amsterdam and assaulting dance floors worldwide each weekend. Tresor, Awakenings, Rex Club, Tomorrowland, Extrema, Bennicassim, Rockness…these are just a handful of the type of venues where Clarke drops his assertive brand of dark, gothic techno and electro. He’s become a fixture on the airwaves and Internet as well too, hosting and presenting his long-running White Noise radio show, which ran for years on Dutch radio station 3FM, and was syndicated online via podcast.
In recent years, Clarke has made a return to the studio – launching a new “Unsubscribe” project as a remixer with producing partner Mr. Jones.. Recent remixes of the Detroit Grand Pubahs classic “Sandwiches”, Black Asteroid’s “Engine 1” on Chris Liebing’s CLR label, and Gesaffelstein’s “Conspiracy” are some of the latest releases he’s added his driving touch to. This Fall, he was responsible for mixing fabric 60, a 17-track mix CD for the famed London nightclub and music label loaded with the kind of underground techno weapons you’ll hear in his live sets.
Warming the decks up for Dave will be Sleepy & Boo, who will be playing their own opening set of hypnotic and driving techno. They have hosted and played alongside a number of techno heavyweights recently – including Derrick May, Speedy J, Jeff Mills and many more – and will be hosting Joris Voorn at Cielo for their own Sleepy & Boo + Friends two-year anniversary party on Friday. Opening the night will be past Basic guest Tano, who is making his LPR debut on the night as well. Hosting the night will be Maria 909, and they’re encouraging everyone to wear black and white for this special night of real-deal techno. As always at LPR, we are bringing in extra sound and bass to reinforce the room. They’re ready for Dave’s sonic assault – don’t miss this rare NYC appearance.
