Unread Monday, Aug 9th 2004, 06:36 PM #1 Speakers on my computer crackling and popping
had this problem for a while now. I just replaced the soundcard with an SB Audigy 2 card and the problem is back again.

I guess it is not the soundcard.

Is it the speakers? I had thought no because I hooked up other old speakers and the popping didn't abate.

Happens for mp3 and CDs played on the PC.

WTF? Advice?

*starts with the obvious*

did you test the cable from the soundcard to the speakers?

if you use the speakers with anything else (discman, etc) do you get the same crackle/pop?

is the speaker wire near anything else that could cause interference? (cell phone, cordless, etc?)

process of elimination should catch it

Mine do it sometimes, too. Turtle Beach soundcard.

Do you have a Blackberry? They also make speakers pop and occasionally make this "pfft-pfft" kinda sounda, if you have it too close.

Check the buffer settings on your Soundcard. You may have to lower it for regular playback from PC apps. Production apps like Cubase, Logic, use higher buffer settings. It may be set to a higher buffer setting.

How do I do that?

This shit sucks

I am going to try to tackle this problem at some point soon.

I do NOT want to buy new speakers and still have it happen though.

OK question....

If I can determine that it is this cable that is the problem, where can I replace it

Ideally I would like something with a volume control on the cable like this one.

One stereo plug goes in the sub (feeds to the sats) and one goes in the soundcard output.
