"Start using your full [Google+] name on YouTube"

Grant the use of your full name is currently optional but I have a feeling this is just Google testing the waters.

It already basically broke my ability to reply to any comments on videos. It popped, I told them no and all of a sudden I can't reply to anything.

Doesn't matter if I use IE, FF or Chrome, all gone.

Fuck google. Someone needs to design another youtube.

Google has lost the plot. They are so fixated on Google+ that they are ruining their other products at its expense.

Google+ is never going to happen, and google refuses to accept this. it's already better than Facebook, but when you're this slow to market, sometimes you'll never get over that hill. If search wasn't such a cash cow I'd be scared for the company.

Google, just make me a self-driving car and kill Google+ like you killed the awesome, way cooler Google Wave (RIP)

Have you heard of an extension called 'Ghostery'? Not sure, but it might be worth a try for something like this, which is obviously related to cookies and behind-the-scenes tracking. I use it all the time on Firefox, and it's been great.

Look for that little pop-up on the right side which tells you how many trackers were blocked when you visit a certain web site, some of the lists feel downright evil.

I see more and more people getting disenchanted with Facebook and their heavy-handed practices. Also certain things on Facebook are downright annoying or made difficult so there's a sliver of an opening for an alternative as long as it's got some kick-ass features and isn't quite as big-brother-like the way Facebook feels at times.

Whether it'll gain enough traction is certainly not something I know, but sometimes certain projects might take longer to establish themselves?

Social media isn't like other project. It's all or nothing. Either everyone's using it or no one's using it. If Google could cut out a niche market then maybe this would apply (if they did a linkedIn approach to social media. Make Google+ the format you use with work people, facebook can still be for friends and family). Either way, I just don't see it happening. And not for any good reason than everyone's already using something else. Google+'s interface blows facebook's away. The concept of circles is phenomenal. It could actually be a worthy email replacement, which facebook is not even though it keeps stealing email users (kids don't email each other, the fb each other). But, I've got one friends who actually posts on Google+. Otherwise it's completely ignored. And this is the core of the problem, everyone needs to be in the pool

I also highly support the use of performance enhancing chemicals in sports and think that we'd have a better earth if these purists would just get off of their soapboxes and treat sports like the frightening and homo-erotic circus that it is.

Olympic sports are the best because they're all the marginal things that no one ever cares about but for a few moments because the hype machine is turned on for rowing and equestrian and gymnastics... which just shines a spotlight on the lie.

Actually, besides soccer(kind of), it's really celebrating marginal sports. And soccer is marginal in the US, so I fully support their uplift of marginal sports that never receive attention from you people who simply suckle on the teat and consume sports as a measure of bonding and societal aid.

You people sicken me.

kind of okay with the youtube thing, given that the purpose is to nerf some of the trolling. thought process being that if you make someone use their real name they're less likely to go off the handle with bigory.

using social media to improve a signal to noise ratio is perverse in its own right however.

Yah I'm inclined to agree with you on this. I do disagree with your Google+ opinion, I think it sucks, not nearly as accessible as FB and badly needs a visual design overhaul.

I don't believe people are deleting their Facebook accounts anytime soon but, I think there's an opening for something because I don't think people are using it as much as they used to and something can easily fill that void. Especially if it's marketed as an alternative, a flat out we are not like Facebook type way.

Just taking a 5 second look at the Google+ interface shows you that it's cleaner and clearer than Facebook. Have you really used Google+? It's superior from a design perspective in just about every way. The photo browsing is better, the posts are easier to scroll through, you can get at small snippets of people's info faster, it's just plain better. And if a user doesn't find Google+ accessible then they must be handicapped. It's as easy as email

This is why its doubly hilarious they flubbed it so bad. I agree with just about everything you said.

They screwed up so monumentally. People WANTED to move away from Facebook..all they had to do was pick up the damn momentum.

This is why I would never buy into facebook. Myspace and friendster disappeared for not particularly great reasons (I really don't even know the reasons). Facebook has legit user complaints -- the software can be buggy, the interface is cluttered, the disregard for user privacy is high and theres little reason to believe it will change. I find it hard to believe with those type of issues they will maintain dominence 'just cause'.

I'm ready to drop facebook b/c after I've adjusted the settings so i don't get updates from friends who are habitual annoying fb posters, I'm pretty much left with S&B updates and marketing bits.

No I haven't really used Google+ but, when I did it fell flat to me where as the first time I used facebook I was immediately entertained by laughing at this person or that person.

The other thing google isn't exactly private either, one of the reasons why I use duckduckgo for search and also the ghostery addon

personally i do like sharing stuff on facebook but, it is always something i feel people should check out and rarely anything that's a lightning rod

as an aside twitter is so much better than all of this shit, by far the best invention of internets (free music and porn not withstanding)
