poor judgment: leaving your kid in a running car while you run into the quikie mart for some milk

deserved legacy staining criminal act: enabling a child molester for a decade

burn in hell soul destroying sin: enabling a child molester for a decade to preserve the saintly public perception of your alleged integrity

He's got the stain of dozens of innocent children on his soul. Fuck him.

I don't think it's sad at all.

For him to not have taken any action was deplorable.

i think it's a tragic end to a long story.

his inaction was inexcusable but it's still sad how fast he succumbed to his illness. i wonder if he had any will to live...

I'm sure the weight of the scandal pushed his will to live downward.

Sometime it feels like express yourself like a ten year old.

There are certain people that due to what they have done in their lives makes me feel no sadness at their passing.

HE TOOK ACTION. HE DID FOLLOW UP. he did what he thought was the right thing. and you can say whatever you like, but i lived in the town and not a single person had a bad thing to say about the man--he lived his life the best way he could, and he was a man of decency and integrity. i do not believe that he would knowingly cover something like that up, that was not who he was AT ALL. he might not have fully understood what was going on (i have read that he was not informed of the sordid details), and he is also from my grandma's generation, that truly believed that bad people didn't come to State College. there was misreporting of facts, a rush to judgment (whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?), and a whole bunch of schadenfreude.

it's funny how people go on about the media and how bad it is (HELLO, he was reported dead BEFORE he died!!! no one bothered to fact check, they went on an unsubstantiated rumor, that should tell you something!!!), yet are so willing to believe the worst about Paterno without considering that just maybe, they haven't been fully informed about what went on...

and believe me, i am no fan of football culture, some of the football players at my high school (i went to school with one of Sandusky's sons, he was a year ahead of me) were complete jerks, but Joe Paterno was not about winning at all costs, EVER (i can't say the same for the University and their conduct in this matter, and that is where my anger is directed). and he wasn't a man with a huge ego, he was a regular guy, a part of the community. he lived in the same modest house, just a couple of blocks away from my grandma, my whole life.

due process? no wonder the gov't is able to take it away--no one believes in it anymore...

A man of decent and integrity? Maybe only to his football team and school. Come on now.

Here is a quote form him.

“I didn’t know exactly how to handle it and I was afraid to do something that might jeopardize what the university procedure was,” Paterno told The Washington Post. “So I backed away and turned it over to some other people, people I thought would have a little more expertise than I did. It didn’t work out that way.”

Just b/c you lived in the town makes it A-Okay to look past what he has NOT done to what 10 innocent children? The fact that you are a parent and could easily look past everything that happened with this scandal just b/c you lived there and he lived near your grandmother is kind of shocking.
