Brandt Brauer Frick Announce North American Dates, Including a Debut US Ensemble Show
There are very few musicians that are at home performing in a chamber music hall, a summer festival stage, or a sweaty underground warehouse party, but for the last several years Brandt Brauer Frick make have been mainstays at all of these venues and more. US audiences have seen the Berlin-based group perform as a three-piece at dates including Coachella, MoogFest and more. This summer for the first time on August 2nd, at a special Lincoln Center engagement, Americans will have the opportunity to see the full 10-piece Ensemble incarnation, which has been the talk of big-ticket European festivals including Glastonbury, Sonar, and Big Chill. Brandt Brauer Frick will also be performing a few select dates as a trio, including the U Street Music Hall in Washington, DC, Osheaga in Montreal, and a second NYC show at Santos Party House on August 3rd.
Brandt Brauer Frick use electronic dance music and techno as a jumping-off point to explore a full spectrum of sounds, created primarily with symphonic instruments including piano, tympani, harp, strings and horns. The group has recorded two albums for !K7, 2010’s You Make Me Real and 2011’s Mr. Machine (as The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble).
The group is currently recording a new album, for release early next year on !K7. "With our first two albums, part of the creative inspiration for us was interpreting electronic dance music using acoustic instruments," says Daniel Brandt. "As that's not so much of an experiment for us anymore, there's a sense of freedom on the new album. We're recording using anything at our disposal, working with more vocalists, and conceiving of our music as songs, as opposed to something that necessarily has to work on the dance floor."
