i just got in from the SOLE Channel Music party at Cielo, and oh - my - gawd, what a party! Mr. V and Alix Alvarez threw down some of the most luscious, funktastic, shake-ya-ass-cuz-you-can't-do-nothin'-else deep house i've heard in a LONG time!
i got to Cielo just before midnight, and Mr. V was already on the wheels rockin' the joint with some of his own tracks plus dark chocolately deepness from Louie Vega, Mr. Fingers and others. Alix Alvarez took us even deeper next, at times straddling the delicate line between pure deep house and tech.
Miss Patty then climbed on top of one of the subs to perform her single "You Ain't Treatin' Me Right" (due from SOLE Channel in May), followed by Arnold Jarvis singing a couple of his tracks. Both performances were on-point and HOT HOT HOT! house heads, pay attention -- these names are gonna be big.
next came a kind of dance exposition... Mr. V asked us to clear the main dance area, and the hottest dancers in the room pulled out some of the most unbelievable moves & acrobatics. these kids are sick! i'm talkin' b-boys and b-girls pulling handstands, windmills, headspins, pop & lock ALL OVER. ain't nothin' like the dancers at a proper house party like this!
by the end of the night, Mr. V and Alix tag-teamed back and forth on tracks ranging from deep, organic, lushness to a touch of more aggressive tech-house. the crowd was dedicated till the very end, and though it wasn't overly packed (just a PERFECT number of people for room to dance), the vibe was THICK and smiling faces were everywhere. at 4 a.m., Mr. V and Alix thanked the remaining dancers by handing out free SOLE Channel CD mixes from WMC. (god i wish it was like a Shelter party running till noon the next day!)
this was a phenomenal night and just another reason why NYC's HOUSE SCENE has it goin' on more than ANYTHING else. between the extraordinary beats and the amazing dancers, there ain't NOTHING like a deep house party in New York!
hope the rest of y'all had a good night, too.
cheers!
