DIRECT DRIVE Presents:
Saturday June 4th
:

LONDON ELEKTRICITY (Hospital Records, UK)

The London Elektricity name is a by-word for real music in drum+bass. The last 12 months has seen London Elektricity AKA Tony Colman smash up the musical side of d+b. With his acclaimed album Billion Dollar Gravy, the innovative London Elek live show and his DJ residency at Hospitality London Elektricity is firing on all cylinders.
In May 2003 the Billion Dollar Gravy LP was finally unleashed. Featuring long-time LE collaborator Liane Carroll, house music legend Robert Owens and the mad breakbeat skills of the Jungle Drummer, Gravy has earned a sackful of plaudits. During recording, a late night phonecall came through asking LE to play live at BBC's Maida Vale studios for Fabio and Grooverider, and the London Elektricity Live show was born. The first 100% live D+B show, the band has caused quite a stir and has been in constant demand touring the UK and Europe extensively in 2003.
The last few months has seen LE remixing the Underworld anthem Born Slippy, and despite a non-stop DJ and live gig diary as well as label runnings, Tony has already gone deep into writing the next London Elek studio album. But in the meantime, a live London Elek album and dvd project is fully underway for release in April 2004.
The LE saga began with the inception of Hospital in '96, and up until 2002 LE was a double-act. Tony Colman and Chris Goss made their mark in 98 with the epic "Song In The Key Of Knife", and subsequent critically acclaimed debut album "Pull The Plug". In 2002 Tony took on the project solo, as Chris took on full time management of the Hospital Label - which has mushroomed over the past couple of years. Rumours of the pair splitting up due to a disagreement over the credibility of drinking earl grey tea continue to be unfounded.

Mathematics (Social Studies, Direct Drive)
As a veteran DJ act, Mathematics is known for creating a unique vibe; blending soulfulness with dancefloor beats, making a wicked deep party atmosphere. Mathematics have recently launched their own imprint Social Studies distributed worldwide by Load Media. Upcoming releases include a 12, due out Winter 2005: ‘Jazz b/w Sphinx’ getting played by Fabio and DJ Flight among others. After that we will hear two singles themed Mathematical Tactics featuring collaborations between Maths and the Hungarian bad boys, Tactile. Also watch out for a collaboration with Mijatoho from Zurich.
While drum & bass made in America has long been ignored by the largely UK-dominated scene, this talented duo has been heartily welcomed by the DJ fraternity in England, having had their music released on high profile labels such as Hospital, C.I.A, Defunked, Frontline, Renegade Rec. among others and played by the likes of LTJ Bukem, Bryan Gee, DJ Hype, Marcus Intalex, Total Science, High Contrast, DJ Lee, Nookie, London Elektricity, Blame, Calibre, L Double and Bailey, amongst others. Worldwide support, both in and outside of drum & bass, has come from DJ Marky, Patife and XRS from Brasil, Dieselboy, Dara, Juju and AK1200 in the US, as well as eclectic heavyweights Les Gammas, Adam Goldstone, and Jason Bentley.

It's only Tony Colman DJing, right?

Not to take away from it, Tony at Hospitality with Robert Owens and Liane Carrol on vocals is probably my favourite ever liquid funk set, but London Elektricity live is a whole different matter
