For the last few years, the underground house world has been abuzz with the energy of the "tech house" genre. This is the sound of London's leading Fabric nightclub, and renowned DJs like Terry Francis, Mr. C and Eddie Richards.
And right at the center of it all is London's own
ASAD RIZVI, the DJ and producer whose own productions have become legendary tech-house anthems the world over. Asad will be returning to the New York on June 18th, playing at the
Sullivan Room in a rare stateside appearance by this fast-rising star. Through his own Reverberations and Wrong Recordings labels, his own discography of jaw-dropping productions, and his notorious DJ sets, Asad has earned a well-deserved reputation for innovation and quality dance music. Adding to the vibe of the night will be live percussion from Michael Sultan, who is currently the tour percussionist for San Francisco's Dubtribe Sound System.
Asad's music is all about diversity. He is an exceptional producer, equally comfortable turning out the uplifting deep vocal house of "Slippery Heights", or the tough tribal thump of Two Right Wrongans, whose classic "System Error" was featured on Danny Tenaglia's "Global Underground: Athens" mix CD. His sound is well-known for its thickness and oomph - bottom-heavy kick drums, extra-wide basslines and searing acid and synth lines that just beg to be played on loud sound systems. His release on his own labels Reverberations and Wrong, have been played by DJs as diverse as John Digweed, Gilles Peterson, David Duriez, Mazi and a long list of the world's leading jocks.
Sharing the decks with Asad on the night will be New York's
DJ Loka from Downshift Radio and
Decker from GlobalThoughtControl. Closing the night up will be Basic NYC's residents and co-founders
Sleepyface &
DJ Boo.
