people who laugh at other teams' misfortunes do a disservice to their own team. you look foolish and unsportsmanlike.

anyway, we've been fine in the second half of the season w/out pedro...and sure, it sucks not having him...but it's out of sight, out of mind.

you yankees are seem more concerned about it than us.

These statements can only be upheld in a bizarro world. You just described every mets and red sox fan, and their obsession with the yanks. Bizarro I love you. I'm not hating on the Mets, I'm rooting for the mets to get to the WS, been doing so all season. Pedro, however, is an asshole of the Nth degree. Even as a mets fan, you'd have to be retarded to disagree. As such, I feel no pity in his situation. And I hope he returns mediocre, keeps pitching, and ends up in a bullpen somewhere in middle america. I truly do hope so...

I love you bizarro...
Born d00dey McP00ps, d00dey brown broke out of the confines of a stifling suburban existence and rose into the identity that has become synonymous with his continuum of desire. Throughout childhood something loomed over him, yet he was unsure of how to speak truth to the ideas in his head. How does one explain something greater than anything else known to man? The answer lied in the language of the feces, speak out through the bunghole.

well, you know i've always loved you, pablo escobar...

how is pedro an arsehole? have you hung out with him? if anything, his clubhouse antics are hilarious. furthermore, i didn't know ballplayers had to be nice guys, in the first.

and as a met fan...i've never held an obsession with the yankees. with cocaine, yes. with the yanks, no.

Point taken. But 2 of those guys (Mauer and Morneau) are brand new to this hitting thing. Morneau batted a pathetic .239 last year and Mauer is only 23.

Put all four of those guys together and I'd still take Big Poppy/Manny over them. I'd still take Pierszinski, Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko, Jim Thome. I'd still take Vlad Guerrero, Garret Anderson...But none of those teams are in it. The YANKEES have NO excuse not to win the enitre thing.

guess i was wrong about pedro...didn't realize he had such a serious injury.

most scouts always predicted that his body would literally fall apart.

he should have become a closer 2 seasons ago.

no need for mets fans to freak out - mets had a much better win % in games without any pedro the last 2 seasons.

I agree. I'm not sure why ESPN is viewing this as doomsday news...

I thought the pitching staff is too weak anyway to get to the World Series let alone win it.

The Met's staff without Pedro might actually be better.

But I'm sure Omar already knew that.

Pedro hasn't been Pedro since April. Like I said before, I am not worried about the pitching.

I don't know how Pedro's poor health translates to him being an asshole or an A-Rod... but I lack the mindless simian bombast of a yankee fan.

Here's a cheery thought for a dreary Friday. The rotation this year has not been awe inspiring. It will be next year. The Mets are stocked with quality young arms for the future. Pelfrey, Humber, Maine, Perez are all under 25 and all have a very good chance to be Cy Young caliber. They also have Heilman, Glavine, El Duque, Bannister and Soler. Oh, and some guy named Pedro Martinez who has 6 months to get healthy.

numbers may be better with Pedro out of the rotation for the season, but you have to be delirious if you think that the Mets pitching staff is stronger in the post season with out an arm like Pedro...

What the fuck's all that gotta do with this year's playoffs?!?

And pedro has proven to be an asshole his entire career. From the jibberish he spews from his mouth, to the beaning he's done when teams hit his pitches up, to the 'i'm the best in the world' attitude he's always carried around with him. Are you blind or something?!?

Nobody said that the Mets pitching was better without Pedro. I didn't see that written anywhere. Where was that? Nope. Only a fool, a yankee fan, or Chris Russo would mutter such inane drivel.

The Mets can, have, and will win without him.

I clearly said that it was just some good news on an otherwise unpleasant morning. Reading comprehension: F

Pedro is one of the best to ever play the game. You'll be hard pressed to find a more dominant pitcher than he's been from 1997 - 2005. He's earned the right to show some moxy when he talks. You can keep your souless yankee newspeak. If throwing inside and playing to win makes him an asshole then I'll take 24 more assholes like him.

You're just pissy 'cause he knocked down Don Zimmer. Crazy old bastard can't be charging after athletes half his age.

I was actually highly amused when he threw zim like that, and felt zim deserved everything he got. Pedro, he's a jerk. There are many a pitchers in today's game better than he, and most of those don't go around talkin shit like he does. Look up Maddux. That's the epitome of a professional. FUck pedro, I hope he's a setup man for the royals before his career ends...

Dude. Maddux is as cocky and arrogant a bastard who ever took the mound. I'm not going to look up the quotes but you can if you like. He's said some heinous shit. You want to know asshole? Look how Maddog quit on the Cubs this year. He totally mailed it in for 2 months.

Still. You're talking elite company. Pedro, Maddux, Clemens. First circle HOF talent. I wouldn't even put The Nasty Unit or Glavine in that company. Maybe Santana will get there in a few years.

One thing those guys have in common is they're gritty, nasty competitors. You gotta have an ego to do what they have. It's part of their game.

it looks like mets fans have finally stopped sniffing glue and started realizing that having a decent regular season doesn't automatically make you world series champs.

So far he's basically been paid a million dollars for each win in a mets uniform. ...i'd love to see them do it, but i can't see them matching with the AL pitching staffs w/out Pedro.
I'd known her for years. We used to go to all the police functions together. Ah, how I loved her, but she had her music. I think she had her music. She'd hang out with the Chicago Male Chorus and Symphony. I don't recall her playing an instrument or being able to carry a tune. Yet she was on the road 300 days of the year. In fact, I bought her a harp for Christmas. She asked me what it was.

amazingly short memory a few Met fans seem to have, I remember such a short time ago, when Clemens was high and tight to Piazza and Roger was tatooed with being a dirty arrogant asshole... 180 degrees in the wind my friends... good luck in the first round...

There's a difference between being an asshole and being a psychotic mongoloid who elects to forget the rules of the game.

He's also a 35 year old pitcher with a LOT of miles on his arm, could barely crank it up to the high 80's anymore, could barely make it through the sixth inning anymore, is facing at least 8 months of rehab (meaning he possibly won't be back until the MIDDLE of the 2007 season), was already talking retirement after 2008 and is sitting on a $25.5 million gold watch even if he never puts on the uniform again.

his velocity and inability to go deep into games is a direct result of his shoulder falling off... as far as his injury goes, everyone said chad pennington's career was over after his second rotator cuff surgery and hes back better then he was before... im not saying pedros gonna come back and be better but i think that the competitor he is he'll definitely make it back to at least be the pedro of 2005 and first half '06

Pedro will be fine, and you can bet your ass he will be back in uniform for the Mets next season... Good call by the Mets getting him out of the playoffs and into surgery asap... Mets should be sitiitng pretty ontop of the NL east for quite sometime and will be conterders for the NL Wildcard if they should slip, with the NL west being a mess as age has caught up to many of those teams, and the Mid-Central losing older pitchers and key position players as well over the next few seasons, the Mets have quietly built themselves a strong young team to go along with a savy front-office along with some knowledgable team Managers & coaches and don't think Pedro, Omar & Willie don't know this...

ps: I like that kid Maine, he should be your #2 starter in the Playoffs and Glavine should pitch the 3rd game, with El Duko on short rest if you fall down 2-1, I trust the kid going in a game 5 at home, seems to have pretty good stuff and works it well.
