DJ Garth bio

Garth/Rocket/Crosstown Traffic Bio:

Sometimes a DJ’s rep takes on the aurra of legend... & deservedly so.

As the man behind or within firing range of much of San Francisco’s best dance floor mayhem this side of the '80's, Garth is one such character.

Wicked’s wild & free Full Moon parties ushered in an era of Acid House hysteria that ripped through the west coast and spread into the heartland. The Wicked crew (Garth, Jeno, Markie & Thomas) are credited widely with having kick started the city’s dance scene in the early 90’s saving it from a cultural (Grateful) dead end.

From his highly coveted 10 year residency at Come Unity, where he was known to have early morning revellers all join hands in ecstatic abandon, to Wicked’s 13 year odyssey as the City’s rulin’ sound system, afterhours renegades & then revolving super club, the stories pile up.

Always one step ahead Wicked imported a custom designed Turbosound system from the UK in ‘95 & embarked on series of guest sessions bringing a wealth of House music talent to the city. Luminaries like Harvey, Louis Vega, Tony Humphries, Pierre, Francois Kevorkian, Joe Claussel & many others were invited to experience what Garth & crew had been keeping to themselves 'til that point... some of the best dance floor vibrations on the planet.

Wicked were the first DJ sound system to tour the States. Fate provided them with a ‘47 Greyhound bus whose previous owners, a gospel choir had imbued it with righteousness enabling them to spread the Wicked gospel to seekers far and wide.

The same bus provided Garth with the inspiration to start his own label in ‘98. With over 50 singles under the belt Grayhound has redefined the San Francisco sound for a global audience. His breakout anthem Disco Glory put him on the map & he now has over 40 singles to his name, many of them on his own label. He has remixed the likes of Perry Farrel (Jane’s Addiction), Yabby You and Tribe Called Quest. His selection and programming skills are captured on mix CDs for Om, NRK, Thrive & Grayhound.

Garth's wide musical palette takes in Acid Rock, Disco, Dub Reggae, House & Electro & he isn’t afraid to play them all in one night, finding the common thread that makes a full range of music relevant to today’s dancefloors. He travels the world extensively lugging a crate of his favorite vinyl to Japan, Spain, England, Mexico, Canada, Australia, even Indonesia sharing the magic wherever he's needed.

On the home front he throws the occasional loft jam known as Rude Not To with mate Thomas (Rub n Tug/Map of Africa) and a fresh monthly shindig called Back 2 Back with another seasoned Wicked veteran Jeno.

Garth was outstanding last time he played Sullivan Room. Not many people can play the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Killing Joke and Emperor Machine in a set and make it work.

Not to be missed.

Oh, and that Keith Walter guy is opening. Double not to be missed.
