Fabric is the first nightclub in the UK to have an application for a 24 hour alcohol license approved. The license went into effect 11/24/05 and is a surefire lubricant for a rollicking New Year's Eve celebration, if not the end of the world. Fabric says, The world is due to end in 2006. We’re not kidding, the conspiracy theorists are full throttle on this one. Nostradamus readers have been building up to it for years and David Icke’s been consulted. The day in question, 06/06/06, is being hailed as everything from the start of WW3, a big ol’ nuclear explosion, an asteroid hit or pacific death wave, to simply the birth of the Antichrist. And it’s the year of the dog, which doesn’t really sound as hopeful as the rooster or mischievous as the monkey. Our first urge was to make a dash for the duvet. But we’re British damn it and we aren’t afraid of a little hellfire and brimstone. In fact, they sound like fine conditions for a party.
So rather than stay at home this NYE, we’d like you to join us for a proper celebration of the fantastic year that was 2005 and all the wonderful things to come in 2006. Joining residents Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Plump DJs, Ali B and Joe Ransom will be the wonderful house and techno talents of Geoffroy, Konrad Black and Gabriel Ananda, both playing live at the club for the first time. In room two there’s breaks from The Freestylers, Rennie Pilgrem and Atomic Hooligan, while three hosts hip hop from DJ Vadim, The Nextmen and DJ Blakey. And there’s not a comet, asteroid or grim reaper in site.
Peace, love and very best wishes for the New Year (what there is of it),
Fabric xx

For those of us who won't make it across the pond, you can enjoy the sounds of Fabric with their latest Press Release: Fabric 25 - Carl Craig (out December 6th).
In years to come, techno will be pored over and historicised. It might have given rise to a new movement, like jazz to funk or blues to rock, traceable to its very last bleep and beat. It may have no place in pop culture, only academia, and where there were clubs there could be conventions. Whatever the fate of the brave new world's music, a handful of names will have been immortalised through it. Carl Craig's is one. Carl wanted to be a DJ from the age of ten, inspired, like all Detroit techno artists, by the radio jock Electrifyin' Mojo. His parents discouraged him, preferring to push him towards his studies, but he retaliated with a careerist, serious attitude that almost forced them to foster his interest. By the age of twenty he had served a production apprenticeship with Derrick May, releasing under the names Psyche and BFC on Transmat, and begun his own record label, Planet-e.
In years to come, he - as Innerzone Orchestra - would produce 'Bug in a Bassbin', the track Roni Size credits as starting drum n bass, and become a fully-fledged album artist with a number of well-received projects. And just as in childhood, a professional approach is always to the fore. He chooses projects with care and consideration and is as likely to look back as forwards (Carl has worked with 'greats' like Bill Laswell, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Belgrave, Geri Allan, Regina Carter and Rodney Whittaker, and helped forge the careers of Recloose and Kenny Dixon Jnr. among others). As a testament to his centrality to Detroit's music, he was chosen as the creative director of the inaugural Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 and, in the midst of a legal struggle at being removed a year later, unanimously supported by Detroit's artists and citizens. At 2004's DEMF, he was commemorated by Detroit for his services to the city. 'Fabric 25' exemplifies why Carl Craig is also regarded all over the world as a firing DJ. It's a mix only he could make; a thunderous blend of wide-eyed house and techno decorated with live studio effects and spontaneous, giddy vocals. As with everything this peerless electronic musician does, it is loud, proud and entirely individual.
“Initially, I wanted to do the mix in an empty Fabric, but that wasn’t possible. I did have Fabric in mind when I made the mix, but because I was doing it in my studio and it’s a new facility, there was quite a lot of experimenting. I wanted to do a hi-tech, hyper mix you could listen to in the car or a café or a banging club. I felt I could do something different, especially by adding claps, sounds and my own vocals. A real party mix.” – Carl Craig
