SSSSSSSSSsssssssssssssweet!

**********************************
DF 2004 -Distorsonie Selected Music" Festival
The ninth edithion,23-24 April, Bologna,Link

Link associated, the University of Bologna - Department of Communication Studies, E-Bo/Le Gocce, Nuovo Cinema Lumiere,Velvet, 74, Zo caffè.
In collaboration with :TDK, Carhartt, Red Bull- Homegroove,Bosound

Two organisations from Bologna's culture and media centre, Link - H-uge (the big-event office) and Led (Link electronic department) - are proud to present the ninth DF for 2004.

DF stands for Distorsonie Festival, Italy's most long-standing event dedicated to electronic music and culture: the first DF took place in 1995. The original idea behind the festival remains its guiding principle today: to give space to contemporary, accurately-selected cultural productions, chosen for their similar cultural projects, new approaches and, above all, the ability to give high-quality results.
The ninth DF festival will be the last to take place at Link's (1994-2004) historical home - that in via Fioravanti, behind the central station: In fact, it will be in May this year - Link's tenth year of existence - that, due to forthcoming railway engineering works, Link will change location and all the interior hardware currently housed at Fioravanti will be transferred to a new building in the Bologna suburb of Quarto Inferiore.

And so, given the fact that Distorsonie has always been a reference point in the Italian electronic-art scene, given Link's anniversary and its change in location, this year's DF will "celebrate", "concentrate" and "synthesise" the experiences of the last 10 years, and as such the 2004 event will deliberately break from the "showcase" character of previous years' festivals.Coincidences and changes do not distance DF from but in fact bring it closer to its original character as an annual meeting for artists and other professionals, a place of debate and reflection with seminars and workshops, a moment of artistic fruition and sensory enrichment.

This year the meetings will revolve around the theme of "electronic culture", and will take the form of discussions about the interdependence of electronic music and its surrounding cultural frames.
The relationship will be analysed with the help of its protagonists and critics, all aware that they occupy different kinds of electronic places (spatial, but not only), all with the aim of arriving at a global view of the phenomenon. A view that incorporates the idea that, by now, electronic culture has gone well beyond geographic boundaries and the ins and outs of fashion to re-draw culture and incite new customs.
DF 2004 will concentrate on the most important content, aspects and influences of "electronic music" in its relationship with the cultural, media, and technological frames that run through it and surround it. DF 2004 renews the need to go beyond the impromptu, un-co-ordinated event which just seeks to maximise the number of styles, fashions and experiences on already on offer. DF 2004 instead pushes the "slow motion" button and will seek to linger on, confront and debate a set of particular themes in genuine discussion workshops, from which other projects will flow.

Such a choice was felt to be necessary, but above all it is also the choice of Italy's most-appreciated and widely-known label-organisation-distributor, Final Frontier, which helped invent Distorsonie 9 years ago and which has always participated in the Festival with always-fresh, always-superb ideas and shows. And in 2004 Final Frontier celebrates its tenth anniversary. To mark the occasion, FF has proposed to DF 2004 an exemplary showcase of its activities and releases. In addition to live acts by FF artists, an impeccable international guest has been recruited, American DJ and producer Mike Banks, central figure in the Detroit production network Underground Resistence. "Mad" Mike will be in concert for the DF on Saturday 24 April, together with his project UR Timeline (Friday 23 he will play at Rome's Brancaleone www.brancaleone.it ,) and accompanied by his friend and UR-co-founder Jeff Mills (Axis records USA), in the only Italian date where they are presenting their latest work, "The Exhibitionist" (DVD produced by React Records and distributed by Audioglobe). DF 2004 will be their third world appearance after their previous Tokyo and Paris shows.

DF 2004 >< Bosound
For both personnel and organisation Bosound is the most prominent new citizens' project (www.bosound.it ) in the field of music. DF is collaborating with Bosound via the show Emilia Romagna vibes, a name chosen in recognition of the dance-vibes which have animated the region since the 1970s. The DF-Bosound collaboration will culminate in an afternoon meeting (Friday 23 April, 4pm) which will involve protagonists of the "regional" scene along with some major Italian and International critics. The meeting will conclude with projections of visual documents of various periods plus a documentary on early 80s NY "house culture", "The maestro", which will be on national preview.
The final evening will be distributed between some of the local subscribers to the Bosound project - and a single pass will be on sale for entrance to the venues. Link, Covo and Cassero. There will also be a special service offered by Bologna's transport company ATC to connect the smaller venues, Kinky, Club 74, Velvet, Zo and Bancò. With this initiative DF is collaborating in the first Bosound festival, a series of musical shows that will go from April to June and take place in various locations around Bologna.

DF 2004 Provisional program and venue guide.
DF will offer a 2-day calendar of concerts/live acts and Dj sets, as well as dedicating a portion of the program to projections and multimedia installations which come into the project under the name of "Eva" (Experimental Visual Artist). They will be curated by Mediaweb in collaboration with the art magazine Boiler Mag. Also being planned are two workshops to provide introductory courses on the software programs Max msp and Eyesweb. The former will be run by Bologna's Studio Arki, the latter by Barbara Mazzarino (from Dist at the University of Genoa) and the performance artist Daniele Soffritti.

DF 2004 will also be providing a section dedicated to style and design called Digital Style. This will include fashion shows, performances and exhibitions of collections, projects and new prototypes, all of which will be under the direction of a series of "dj/muscicians/stylists/designers" and experts in multimedia projects. They will be seeking to unite the production of electronic music and youth-design projects in an aesthetic, creative symbiosis.
DF 2004 is dedicated to Fabrizio Usberti aka Sinapsi/DJ Kalapodis, veteran mastermind behind Link, Distorsonie and the whole electronic Italian scene, who recently disappeared in a tragic incident. In his honour there will be a live act involving several people, inspired by the sounds made by sewing machines with which Usberti used to produce his fashion lines. Usberti's closest collaborators will also participate: Mike Dredd (Rephlex Records UK), Strek vs Atzmo (Betulla Records, I) William of Apocalypse rec (FR).

DF-TV: Distorsonie (Interactive Web) Television
DF-TV is the online, interactive TV-broadcast of the festival, set up by Mediaweb (www.mediaweb.tv.it). Footage from previous years may be found at http://www.mediaweb.tv.it/DF3TV DF-TV will broadcast both live and prerecorded footage of the most important events, with a special connection that will allow an online public to join in with debates and pose questions to directly to artists and producers during interviews.

Only really at Dark DnB nights (only even really Clownstep orientated nights) is there any real aggro. Electro-klash is ULTRA trendy here at the moment so there's some pretention surrounding the scene.

I have never had any issues at anything other than a Clownstep night.

Yeah, it is Jump-up, but the particular sort of jump-up (Twisted Individual personifies it). Some purists call all new skool Jump-up clownstep but I feel that's a little harsh, there are some really decent producers out there.

But you better hurry..

The flip side to the Utopian
type of festivals and clubs
over here is that they ALL close
for the summer (In a month or so)

That's why I jump over to
Spain, Brussels and Germany
during late June through August..

Hit me with a PM when u are
in town.
