I just heard about this and grabbed tickets. $35 a pop. Yeah, it's in Jersey. Yeah, I don't know if Spankrock is opening. But $35 sure as hell beats $70 at MSG.

Anyone going?

I'm not actually interested in going to this show, I just didn't know that there was a place in Jersey City where they did shows.

Looks nice though.

Yeah, but I live in Brooklyn.

And I actually like Jersey. Ohio girls don't move to New York to live in Jersey, though, and going to a concert in Jersey is typically less attractive to a lot of people than going to a concert in the city.

interesting. i would think a place like the PNC Arts Center is much more comfortable then any place in the city. i could be wrong however, it has happened before.

Is there any update on Spankrock?
I'd known her for years. We used to go to all the police functions together. Ah, how I loved her, but she had her music. I think she had her music. She'd hang out with the Chicago Male Chorus and Symphony. I don't recall her playing an instrument or being able to carry a tune. Yet she was on the road 300 days of the year. In fact, I bought her a harp for Christmas. She asked me what it was.

Does anyone know how Beck's new CD is? His last CD was really good, I'm surprised he came out with another one so quickly. I love the guy (with the exception of the Country album )

Mini review:

1) All promises about how awesome the venue was were spot on. Super old ornate theater = great. I hope they do more stuff there aside from movies.

2) That said, it was a totally freaking weird joint to see Spankrock. The theater was not full yet, and they're going buck wild on stage while the crowd sat in their seats. I felt dirty, almost, sitting while they went nuts. Watching 40 year olds shake in their chairs to "Shake it Til My Dick Turns Racist" was priceless, though.

3) Beck puts on a SHOW. He opened with "Loser," went straight into "Black Tambourine," and kept the energy up until he went into the whole sing a song while playing the guitar mellower stuff. The mellow bit lasted too long, but he more than made up for it with the rest of the band jamming out with table setting percussion (they had a full dinner table set up for the band members while he did his singer w/ a guitar thing). One of the coolest things I've seen at a concert ever. The puppet show was beyond amazing, too, and the Jersey City video at the end was amazing. I have no idea what the fuck was going on during the encore when they came out in bear suits and someone fell on a drum kit, but awesome overall. The "Two Turntables and a Microphone" second encore was killer, too. I'd never seen Beck live and would totally do it again.

Two super enthusiastic thumbs up.

Yep. Pretty much everything you would want to hear him play, he did. The only song I was disappointed with was "Debra." I think that song is so and it was a little lost in translation.

And the puppet show was crazytown. Behind all the band members on the stage they had a little mini stage set up with 4 puppeteers controlling puppets of all the band members, including the Napoleon Dynamite-ish tambourine/xylephone player/back up dancer. The puppet show that was mimicking the live show was shown on a big ass video screen above the band. Totally .

Awesome. That shit was so off the hook. Nice find, Joe. Seeing it on Youtube doesn't do it justice, but it's far better than any description I could give.
