New Yorkers Satoshi Tomiie and Hector Romero can more often than not be heard rocking international dancefloors weekend in and weekend out. But to catch the two of them together, playing their hometown, is an exceedingly rare opportunity. But the two label heads of SAW Recordings will be teaming up to headline Sullivan Room on Saturday, October 3rd, when KGB & Basic NYC team up to welcome these esteemed artists for their Undulation 3 world tour. Expect cutting-edge music all night as these heavyweights show us what the SAW Recordings sound is all about.
Undulation 3 is a two-disc set that captures the sound of SAW Recordings, the pioneering label co-founded by Satoshi and Hector in 2000. Since day one, the imprint has been dedicated to exposing new talent and new sounds, with dozens of releases that helped launch the careers of numerous artists. Undulation 3 features 12 SAW tracks, and a second CD mix by Hector Romero. Artists as diverse as Anthony Middleton (from the UK’s Audiofly), to Chicago’s Mazi (as the Audio Soul Project) to Satoshi Tomiie himself appear on the compilation.
As DJs, Satoshi and Hector skillfully cover a huge range of dance music territory. From soulful, New York-styled house and vocals, to seriously twisted late-night dancefloor territory, both DJs know how to move a dancefloor from start to finish of a night. They both are true virtuosos behind the decks, with regular appearances at some of the world’s great nightclubs.
This will be Satoshi’s third Sullivan Room night in less than a year, and the prior two events have been seminars in dancefloor hysteria. Hector himself used to hold his own Sullivan Room residency, and is well-versed in how to tear the room apart. They haven’t done a joint date in New York in years, and we’re sure they’ve got plenty of surprises planned for this rare hometown appearance.
Returning to Sullivan Room for this night will be Sullivan Room’s sound designer Bill Weir of CORE Audio. Weir personally will be on hand to once again tune the sound system to their exact specifications, ensuring that his music will sound its absolute best. He has worked closely with Satoshi on the last two appearances, and with the recent sound reinforcements at Sullivan, the club will sound pristine this Saturday.
Warming up the night will be Basic NYC regulars Mixer Assassin, aka the duo of James Lomax and Aizaz Akram, with residents Sleepy & Boo on hand as well. To celebrate their return, we have a special giveaway of signed Undulation 3 CDs and SAW Recordings t-shirts; guests can enter with an email to contest@basicnyc.com
