man was that a craptacular shitshow
I'm considering renting a calliope and parking it in front of D36 ... it's a perfect accompaniment to the should-be-illegal child circus they run at the door

ahhh krizia you were a ticketholder and were turned away?
shit ... man am I glad we were just on flawless's guestlist and were denied our comps because the ghastly girl working the list (is this really a job you get flustered over?) only wanted to deal with us if we wanted to buy bottles (really? how 2006! wasn't this supposedly a music-oriented venue?) ... because if I had payed any money at all for the privilege of being pushed around and screamed at by a probably-convict and mostly-empty-headed staff I would be pretty pissed indeed.

So they couldn't open a while ago because WHOOPS forgot to get that darn certificate of occupancy ...
seems like they concentrated on the sound system and then just WHOOPS forgot all the other details ...

hope they get it sorted out, obviously
we obviously get worried when they can't nail the basics.

Can't believe that this is the centre of Manhattan clubbing. Well done greatest city and music scene in the world!

Got there and started waiting on line at 10pm, finally got in around 11:15. If you got there early you got in. Didn't matter any other details.

Sound was amazing, lights were pretty. You had your run of almost the whole place as the only VIP area is small—directly behind the booth, which is really refreshing change from every other big room in this city. Those of us inside managed to have a great night.
(Now I'm not speaking to the music that was played, which stylistically wasn't really anything that blew me away, but the overall experience was pretty damb good and it sounded amazing on that system)

I haven't had an audio assault like that since Twilo/Arc. If you stood on the middle of the dancefloor, you felt the bass in your heart.

Last tune was played at 4:30 by Howells, I Feel Love.

Looks cool.

I heard about some people who bought advance tickets and drove all the way from Boston just to get turned away at the door.

Sorry to hear about people traveling long distances being turned away. That's not the most auspicious way to start things on a positive note, especially to make up for those delays.

But as with any club, a couple of weeks later will usually be a much better experience, once all of the kinks are worked out. Unless there's an artist THAT SPECIAL who is appearing, I'd never want to go to an opening night. It's usually just too intensely disorganized, crowded and full of people with a weird vibe.

You don't think people who spent their hard-earned money on an advance ticket should have been let in if they got there "late?" Late being what... after 11:30?

Everyone was told to get there early. That's all I know. It sucks that they weren't expediting the people who bought tickets to the front of the line or a separate line but once they reached capacity (which was basically anyone that had been waiting in line from about 9pm-10:30) they stopped letting people in.

abgrover - the point is that they hyped themselves as being 'different' and 'all about the music' and just ended up acting like any other big room would....complete with plastic door girls, bottle-driven service and goons in cheap italian suits outside.

Sounds like a load of shit to me tbh, but apparently we should give it a month before properly judging.

Do they not just then make it one out one in at that point?

They must have done that because more people were in there between 1-2 than were there right when it opened.

I'm not going to talk about my opinions on this any further. Sorry it was a shitshow but I expected that when I attempted to go, the promoters did a pretty good job managing my expectations.

Most of my friends got in too. They knew the deal and stood in line at 10 too. And that is why I had fun. So call us all crazy, but we got there early and got in.

This. No need to be a dick about it Wilson, you don't know what's going to happen. I don't understand why they weren't letting people with tickets in first (that makes ZERO sense to me) but other than that it all seems standard practice for Manhattan, fair?

I think what most people are forgetting about this D36 place is that the lineups will be continually dull and 5 years late in any case, this is more of an issue

so...where do i start the rant... well I was one of the 4 people in the group with HSD99999.

I was really excited to see Howells in the new setting on a supposedly nyc best sound system (yet to find out) .I haven't seen him for few years now and, he was/is one of my favorite djs (his GU27 will always be one of my fav mix compilations) . So all in all I was really looking forward to a great night...

We got there at 10pm. In the middle of the line maybe about 40-50 people in front of us.

We were notified by email (twice) that we are listed on the "flawless" guestlist and were supposed to have no problems with admission to the club.

Me personally being in the "scene" close to 10 years now. Doing various things in it for years including managing 600 people capacity night club in the middle of Chicago. I would assume that "being on the list" means that there would possibly be a separate line or at least o host/hostess that would take care of those people. Instead we saw 2 girls that had absolutely no idea what was going on. Holding their precious clipboards and running back and forward with no real reason behind it. What were they doing?

I didn't mind the yelling pushing people around bouncers that were trying to claim the street property of NYC as their own.
But what I did not appreciate was that I was yelled at (twice) when I tried to politely asked about the names on check the list to get into the club.

As HSD9999 previously mentioned the girl did not wanted to deal with anyone unless they were buying a bottle service...Wow well if you are booking acts like that you should know better what kind of crowd will show to this party, (meaning people that are mostly music lovers and don't care about your flashy vip section).

Anyways after 2 hrs wait we finally got in front (first in line at 11:55pm - want to remind you again there was maybe 40-50 people in front of us when we got there at 10). Just to find out that we are not be able to talk to the girl with the flawless list as she was "too busy" running around and looking scary.
We did talk to the other hostess, and did receive 4 tickets which I though would be comp admission and we would be ready to start a proper night. So after we got heavily pat down (thanks TSA) inside before we head downstairs. Just to find out that the comp tickets are now drink tickets and we are asked to pay $40 each to get in..... Which I'm sorry but on the opening night to ask for that kind of money is absolutely absurd.

I am really disappointment with the whole management, and the way they run their business. Maybe you should train your people before even thinking about inviting people to your place. If this continues you not only going to be getting a "reviews" like this but your place will go to hell faster than you think...

With all that I very much hope so that Richie Hawtin will make this weekend worth making a trip from another city.
