The 4th annual Dance Parade will take to the streets of New York City beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2010. The multi-cultural parade, which unites dancers of all genres throughout the city, will start on 21th Street and Broadway, travel south through Union Square, turn east onto 8th Street and continue into Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. The parade is designed to celebrate the history of dance and unfolds chronologically, beginning with the most ancient forms of dance and ending with contemporary and urban styles. From 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Tompkins Square Park will be host to DanceFest, which will include a myriad of free dance performances, workshops, lessons and social dancing on stage and in the basketball courts, along with aerial performances.
Dance Parade New York will include 70 styles of dance, ranging from classical ballet to contemporary hip-hop to holistic, therapeutic, expressive dance. The Parade will showcase over 300 dance organizations and over 10,000 dancers.
“Dance Parade is a celebration of dance - a tribute to the history, cultures, people, founders and styles of dance that touch millions each day,” says Greg Miller, Founder/Director of Dance Parade New York. “This parade truly celebrates New York City as the dance capital of the world, and establishes dance as an expressive art form for all ages. It also offers the opportunity to educate and invite spectators to join the fun and start dancing.”
Dance Parade New York is a colorful explosion of beautiful costumes, decorative floats, lively music and joyous dancers. All dancers must register for the parade in advance through the Dance Parade web site: http://www.danceparade.org/EE/index....n/join_parade/.

Registration is free for individual dancers, and there is a suggested donation of $50 for dance organizations. The parade provides free scholarships for organizations that cannot pay the fee. Upon registration, dancers will be able to promote their particular dance genre and are given the option of a free web page where parade spectators can learn more before and after the parade.
